***OFFICIAL NORTHWESTERN AT MINNESOTA BATTLE OF 14-13 TEAMS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

There is absolutely no chance that Ben is back after that one. All doubt is erased. His 5 out, one on one offense got figured out by opposing coaches. They overplayed us and we can't beat anybody off the dribble. We have no action to combat it. Total crap basketball on both ends.

Unreal to go win 2 games on the West coast and then turn around and drop 2 home games against the bottom teams in the conference.

Good shot we miss the BTT now, may as well just call a press conference tomorrow and add our name to the list of teams who will be looking for a new coach next year.

To be fair, people said the same thing after a loss to something called North Texas.
It's remarkable this squad won 6 B10 games

That was early in the season though and although things looked bleak there was still a chance to turn things around (even if the odds of it happening seemed slim).

Now we are down to 3 regular season games left and after tonight there is a good chance we don't even make the BTT.

As for winning 6 conference games.....there isn't a ton of separation between the bottom half teams in the conference. The surprising part is knocking off Michigan and UCLA in those 6 wins but Utah beat Kansas so basketball is weird that way.

Ben’s gonna need his fat little buddy Lavalle to write another article to plead for the state to keep paying him a couple million.
Don't be obtuse... I hate reading outright lies. I read enough lies on a daily basis that I can't let this slide.

The State of Minnesota doesn't pay the salaries for coaches within the athletic department via the University. In fact, there was an article a few years back that clearly showed that that the athletic department pays the U about 3 times more than what it receives from the U... NOT including parking revenue generated for the U on game days.

It's hard to be surprised by anything anymore. Indeed, what the season has taught us is to not be surprised by any wins or losses by any margin. So, this ain't a surprise. Nor would have been a 20-point win. Going into this game, I felt it could go either way and would depend on effort, energy, and intensity. After the 10-point Cats run to start the game, it was clear the Gophs were going to have to pull their head out of their ass and start playing defense, and they really didn't until the last 5 minutes of the game when they tightened things up enough to avoid giving up 80. That was some weak, soft shit.

Now on the road to Nebraska, home against the skunks, and at Rutgers to close things out. I would not bet five dollars on any of those games. Heaven knows how they'll play. It's tempting to say they're cooked, but nothing would surprise me. All I know is that a better coach would get more consistent results out of this maddening team. No team is at their best every night, but this has been ridiculous.

Yikes. When you make the Ben Boys mad, they come out swinging.

The U’s athletic Department makes money some years and some it doesn’t. If you think that 75% empty arena is covering Bens bucks, I don’t know what to tell you. And if you cite the media dollars, that comes regardless of who is the coach.

I actually feel bad for the student/athletes. They are putting all of the effort that it takes to win. It can’t be easy being on offense and wondering where the ball is going.

Some of that is definitely scheme but a lot of it was Hawkins leaving late after saying he was coming back and then not being able to find a great replacement. They had their point guard of the present to build to the pg of the future. Asuma may be very good at some point but he is still a true freshman making the jump from small town Minnesota basketball to the Big Ten.

Put Hawkins on this team and it would fix a lot of the issues on offense. Wouldn't make the team a contender or anything like that but Hawkins was amazing at setting guys up and he would have been a massive help for a guy like Mike Mitchell who relies on others to free him up.
