***OFFICIAL NATIONALLY RANKED IOWA AT MINNESOTA RIVALRY GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Does anybody know if any of the injured players are coming back this year? Part of the reason for Iowa's late run was the gophers were gassed. Having only seven playable guys is not sustainable.
Willis and Viahola are not. Stephens has an undisclosed illness, so I doubt it. Omot had off season surgery and clearly looked uncomfortable in the exhibition so I doubt will see him this year as well. Be great if we could get 10-15 minutes a night from him but if he's not back in the next couple of weeks my guess would be we won't see him

1. Iowa was over-rated, they played two top teams and lost by 20 to Maryland and I. State. Biggest win was at home over Ole miss. Polls were waiting for a loss to drop them.
2. Iowa, Northwestern, and to some degree Indiana, are three of the lesser athletic teams, especially in the front court. Iowa has lots of skinny players.
3. Gophers and Medved got another great win. Each player knows their roles.
4. We got a very good amount of the 50-50 calls.
5. I am excited for us to play USC.
6. Concern; we got outrebounded by a skinny Iowa team 39-28.
Michigan State, not Maryland.

I know that's what you meant, but Maryland is awful, so I wanted to clarify.

I agree with you on the overrated part. Iowa's lack of athleticism really stood out to me. But like us, they are well coached which can cover up a lot of deficienies. I think Stirtz will be neutralized in many games.

I am also excited for USC. They look like trash as of late but have elite athletes all over the court. It will be a different kind of test.

I wish we had some money to lure a professional to come here. I hate it's allowed, but since it is, it would be nice to get another guard or a true center.

Not to argue, but even after last night's loss, KenPom has Iowa at #18. Maybe they haven't been completely consistent, but they've had their moments, and they have good talent.

I'd be surprised if Niko isn't hammering on the rebound differential today. Robert Vaihola ain't gonna be walking through that door any time soon. They need to be able to rebound with what they got.

Iowa is a well coached team, with one stud player, and a bunch of mid major talent. Stirtz is the only player averaging double figures. They just haven't beat anyone good. If they take down a talented #16 Illinois team at home on Sunday, I will be impressed. My wife is a Hawkeye so I have seen a few of their games. The gophers win is still a quality win. I just doubt iowa will be a top 25 team for a majority of the year.

Gophers able to execute Bo Ryan's old plan for success, Make more free throws than your opponent
attempts, Easy to talk about but HARD to do, especially with guys playing 35 minutes and fighting fatigue.

USC was 12-1 heading into back to backs at #2 Michigan and #12 Michigan St. They lost badly but I wouldn't cast any stones.

I'm not overly concerned about #6 yet. They compensated for that adverse rebound differential by having 4 fewer turnovers and 5 more steals than Iowa. Through four conference games, Minnesota is averaging only about 2.5 fewer rebounds per game than its conference opponents even after last night's game.

I agree that Iowa does not have much in the way of P5 bodies. Reynolds looked like Rocky Balboa compared to the guys trying to guard him.

That's why I said "as of late." They are way more athletic than our squad. Interested to see how we look against them.

This year, every game will be a contest between better athletes versus better coaching. Our boys are going to struggle against athletic length like Michigan, Purdue, and Illinois, but they can compete against teams that rely on individual athleticism.

I know what I wrote is factual. And there is no doubt Iowa had the momentum at the end of the game. Odds are the Iowa wins in overtime.
The only momentum Iowa had at the very end of the game was to the visitor locker room.
