I wish I could blame this on Danny Collins.
It’s way too early to make that statement. This team could absolutely be worse than year 1 and 2 of Ben Johnson. This team is not as bad as Ben's year 1 or year 2. It's not particularly close. And it might be better than year 4 too.
I’m not yearning for the long-ago days of Ben Johnson but his first team started 11-1 with road wins at Pitt; Mississippi State & Michigan. It’s way too early to make that statement. This team could absolutely be worse than year 1 and 2 of Ben Johnson.
Year 1, Payton Willis and EJ Stephen’s were better than any guard on our team currently and Jamison Battle is a pretty similar player to Tyson. Even Sutherland and Loewe would contribute on this year’s team.
Year 2, Guard play was awful, but Cooper would be our starting pg on this year’s team. Dawson Garcia, Jamison Battle, and Pharrell Payne were a significantly better front court than this team, and all had multiple years of eligibility left. You also had some promising minutes from JOJ and Carrington as part of a strong freshman class. This year has nothing like that core of potential returning players.
Might be held in the 30's......Who's excited to see this team score in the 40s come Big Ten play?
No. Go root for Southern Montana next year when he takes over.
My HS FB coach always lied about ht/wr in the program. I was 5’11 200 and magically was listed as 6’1” 215. I wonder if Niko hired Jake to inflate Turner’s stats. It's like Gaston Diedhou part II. Yikes.
Ben LivesI sat courtside. They still sucked at free throws up close. It's just more infuriating ha
Lifetime Extension for Coyle! And to think, nobody here would've ever believed this year would be worse than the last four (4), but it sure appears to be.
I'm hard pressed to remember a time when the Gopher sports programs as a whole have been collectively this bad.
Fans, boosters, and the weak media jackals in town need to start putting heat on Mark Coyle and the president Rebbeca Cunningham. Mark Coyle has me wishing Joel Maturi was still here. And to think, nobody here would've ever believed this year would be worse than the last four (4), but it sure appears to be.

Which MIAC team is that against?Their guards are just a lot better than ours are. 2 kids recruited out of HS, a part time starter at Portland, and someone who couldn't get off the bench at Oregon.
Our best guard is also unplayable down the stretch if we do happen to be leading bc he can't make a FT
Looks like the next win will be in 3 weeks.

Apple Strrrrrrrrudel!!APPLE Shtruuuuudel!
I don't think there's a player on the current team who would be in Johnson's top ten recruits, none of whom stayed either because they were rentals or there was no money to pay them.

Still protecting Ben.......This was the first game that I watched start to finish. I take back everything I said in my post a couple of days ago about some semblance of a system in place.
This was the most ill prepared gopher team I've ever seen and I've been punishing myself with this nonsense for decades.
For those folks who spent four years screaming about the DEI hire, he was so far ahead of what Medved put on the court last night with so much less money. I don't think there's a player on the current team who would be in Johnson's top ten recruits, none of whom stayed either because they were rentals or there was no money to pay them.
It's not hard to make a free throw. If you give a shit.
Helps when the ref ignores a clear delay a game. Potential five point swing if they whistle Brooks thereThat team isn't from Minnesota that's why
I thought Lowe brought more to the table than Cooper, and Patterson. Probably make an argument for EJ Stephens, Surherlin and Mike Mitchell over Frank Mitchell as well. Will see where Asuma lands when it's all said and doneI agree that Johnson had greater funding handicaps than Niko but I think the above comment is a bit of an overstatement. Nevertheless, it did provide motivation for me to think about who belonged in Johnson's top 10 recruits. Here's what came to my mind:
Top 10 BJ Recruits Garcia Battle Payne Willis Hawkins Christie Cooper Frank Mitchell Patterson Parker Fox
These are not in strict order although the upper part of the list is stronger than the lower part. I didn't include Asuma because, in my opinion, he hasn't shown as much yet as the other names on this list.
I definitely think that Cade Tyson and Crocker-Johnson could bump someone from this list. In time, maybe the current Willis or Reynolds could too. Patterson and Odukale played better in conference last season than they played in the nonconference part of the schedule and the same could be true for Willis and Reynolds this season.
My current regret from this list is that we couldn't or wouldn't keep Frank Mitchell with the program. I don't know the reasons why. He had a promising start last season and he's averaging 16 points and 10.6 rebounds per game for Saint Bonaventure this season.
Cooper could probably thrive in the Asuma role, that's where he was at Moorhead St and South Carolina, combo, clear second option, but he was brutal as the lead guard here. Carrington and JOJ has potential but they weren't ready to play, neither was Henley, that's why they went 2-17. Too many young guys and the older guys had no chemistry with each otherIt’s way too early to make that statement. This team could absolutely be worse than year 1 and 2 of Ben Johnson.

He's a very large human. But I think that's his only skill. My HS FB coach always lied about ht/wr in the program. I was 5’11 200 and magically was listed as 6’1” 215. I wonder if Niko hired Jake to inflate Turner’s stats.
