***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT PURDUE BIG TEN OPENER IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

He and Payne are the only two guys willing and strong enough to keep Edey from posting up right under the hoop. You need bothbecause you are going to use all 10 fouls
Garcia is on him now. I’m not saying JOJ isn’t willing, I’m saying he cannot do it.

Actually liked the effort in the second half. They didn't look as brick footed as normal. Still a mile and a half to go, but they looked more comfortable.

And Garcia got dunked on and fouled out in very few matchup attempts to defend him....not strong enough...height doesnt matter

Few things. Purdue is good, yikes they are talented, deep and well coached. This team would be the blueprint for what people on here call a building team. Big man who took 4 years and now is a true star. RFr who put on weight and can contribute. Everyone knows their roles. It's really a credit to that staff.

Next, listen you can say ben needs time, has freshman etc. His offense is one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen. If you can watch a gophers game and not think Ben has 0 idea how to coach offense I don't know what to tell you. It is utterly embarrassing. We aren't making shots...because we only take awful shots.

Henley, uff he's got miles and miles to go. I can see positive things from the other 3 freshman, Henley just looks like he has never played an organized game of basketball in his life.

Totally disagree on Henley.

Eddy is a beast. It didn't seem like we threw that many doubleteams at him and yet they still got good looks on threes; Purdue is pretty solid. That said, Battle hit some shots, the freshmen made some more plays, and the effort was there in the second half when the game was never really in doubt. Let's beat the Wolverines!

Better ball movement and spacing tonight. The kids fought hard and never gave up. Eddy is a beast who gives Purdue options just by being in the game. Take him out and the Gophers aren't far behind.
Watching this game gets me excited to see Dennis Evans join the team and give us a presence down low. The future is bright for the Gophers!

Purdue is very likely a Final Four contender. Edey has gotten so good. Glad this is his last year.

Positives:
- Payne is not scared and can play some defense.
- JOJ looked much more aggressive offensively and also was not scared.
- Cooper played a good game and hit some shots.
- Battle found his rhythm again, which should be a good sign for us.

Any ideas on why Payne sat the last 10+ min w only 2 fouls while he played Ramberg and a super gassed/non-factor Garcia?

With TT out I thought this would finally be the night Payne starts to slow down one of the best bigs in the country. Nope. We start JOJ who was obviously going to get into foul trouble and take him out of the game.

At this point I’m halfway expecting Payne to still be coming off the bench all four years for obscure reasons that will never be explained or understood. That is, if he doesn’t transfer.

Hey, they covered the spread. What do people want?!
Seriously, I've been wondering whether they'd win any conference games, but now I believe they will. These players can do some things, and they showed me some things today. If they catch one of the weaker teams on an off-night at home, this could happen.

did Payne have 4 fouls? only reason I could see unless he got hurt? 4 fouls and they forgot about him? Dunno, agree it seems odd

We should get hot a couple nights...fix the turnovers a bit

That was my assumption as well. But no, ESPN box score shows 2 fouls. This takes away the “we can’t start Payne to protect him from getting in foul trouble” rationale totally. If that was the point, leaving him on the bench the last 10 min (and playing Ramberg……. ?) contradicts this completely. Unless there’s an injury.

What Ben is doing w Payne this year is beyond maddening/negligent.

Next is Hunter Dickenson and Michigan on 12/8. Be interesting to see what the boys learned from today's game.
