I think he was just trying to get back to the guy so far behind him in time, to turn his head.

He turns his head and the ball goes right passed him and the touchdown is even easier. He got beat, recovered well and had his arm in there to try and dislodge the ball. Great throw great catch, defender got beat initially and did everything else right in the recovery. Sometimes good plays happen
