Gophers have won 3 straight Big Ten games. Michigan State is 8-0 in the Big Ten, something has to give tonight as two of the hottest teams in the Big Ten face off in East Lansing.

If Minnesota really wants to send a message to the Big Ten and the nation that this recent run is for real, tonight is the chance.

Ride Dawson, limit turnovers, stay out of foul trouble and hit open 3s. We gotta stay composed as the Breslin Center is usually rocking.

GET 'ER DONE JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't have real high hopes for this one but I guess if there is a good time to play MSU it is while you are playing your best basketball of the season. Find a way to keep the game close and anything can happen.

The ref's let them play during the Oregon game. There were a lot of no-calls going both ways. Doubt that'll be the same at MSU with Izzo on the sidelines. Izzo expects calls to go MSU's way and they refs know it.

From now until the final buzzer sounds, I’ll be cheering and hoping beyond hope that the Gophers come out victorious. After that, if we come up short I will also be happy because we will be one game closer to having someone else leading our Gophers as their head coach. Win/win!!

Oh, look, it's Big Douche, the human stink bomb.

Cool....glad you can find a way to be happy about seeing the team lose.....to each their own I guess.

Not sure when it happened; but, for me, Izzo transitioned from being a coach whom I admired into this whining, little gnome who's every bit as unlikable as Fran or even Bo was.

MSU hasn't had a very tough gauntlet MN schedule with wins against--MN, NEB, OSU, WASH, NU, PSU, ILL, RUT--Wins over bottom 6 in Big Ten standings.

After MN, Sparty could lose 8 of their next 9 games--@USC, @UCLA, ORE, IU, @ILL, PUR, @MICH, @MD, WISC.

MN and MSU have the same 2-1 record vs ranked teams (AP).

Most layups wins this game, as MSU (should) shoot under 30% 3s. Limit fast break points please.

Gophers can get into a rock fight and start the MSU slide down the standings! Go Gophs!

Everything points to them losing this game...#7 team, on the road, 12 point dogs....

But... that only fuels this team even more. Proving people wrong. They play physical, defend well in the paint (MSU does not shoot great from 3), and have an all conference player in Dawson Garcia playing at his best...which is exactly why they are going to win this game.

All our Bigs need to have career games tonight, not allowing MSU to grab a rebound. Sparty is a poor 3 point shooting team so we cannot give them extra chances when they miss.

From your lips to God's ear! This is the one game left where I can't get my head around the idea of winning but I can't think of anything better than being wrong about that!

We have the only conference game tonight and the hopes and fears of the entire conference (sans one member) are with us. This headline appeared on today's page of Off Tackle Empire:

B1G Basketball: January 28th Open Thread. Glorious Gophs Are Our Last Best Chance Against Sparty

I think this is a bit of a must win. Must win for tourney hopes, fan confidence and potentially Ben’s job. A loss tonight resets the narrative—especially if it’s ugly.

Agree with your assessment of Izzo, but the current Izzo started around 2000. McCaffrey was born with his behavior.

I don't think it's a "must win." It's too high of a hurdle for that. True, some of the haters will come out upon a loss even though the team is a 14-point underdog. I agree that a blowout will hurt them but a close loss will help them.
