The gophers under PJ struggle early in the year against bad teams. Tonight they finally lost one of them.
Yeah, people forget the eventual 11-2 Gophers could have easily lost to 2019 South Dakota State in a game where they lost the LOS for 4 quarters. For 3 straight weeks they needed ridiculous game saving catches against teams that turned out to be far inferior.
There's a history of slow starts in spite of the Gophers having the longest non-con winning streak. A bunch of good players lost, no spring ball, no non-con, new OC, and Covid are all making it worse.
There will be a bear market rally. The team's not hopeless and the defense will improve. But this will be a long year and it may get worse before it gets better.
