***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT INDIANA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

To Tyson’s credit he has been consistently good since the early exhibition games. Much more than a spot up shooter that can’t create his own offense.
The movement in Niko’s system helps Tyson a lot. He is not a guy who can just dribble and take his guy one on one. That seems to be what UNC does. Tyson has been very good in Niko’s system.

When you play basically 5 guys, and they don’t all bring their “A” game, it can get out of hand fast. Only Tyson had it tonight.

Asuma really needs to work on his stroke this offseason. We will need him to be much improved in the 3-pt department, especially if we are going to run it back with Willis (who’s basically another Reynolds shooting the 3).

Although, I’m super intrigued by Asuma’s mid range/floater game. He looks super comfortable getting his shot up in the lane.

This offense will fricken hum if we have 4 shooters on the floor at all times, and a 5th “keep you honest” kinda shooter (Grove??).

Indiana has done a good job in scouting how to break the zone and they have played very good defense. When we do get good looks we haven't made the shot. Unless there is a breakdown by Indiana, this doesn't seem to be our night.
That's what I saw too. Lots of great action to get a good high/low going and then they started getting dribble penetration at the end and that was the game. Defensively, they did a great job of covering cuts and making us try to win from deep. Guess we were due for a cold shooting game, but gotta give Indiana credit. They stepped on the gas and never let up.

I'd go one further, Niko's system is built to take talented players that might not be 5 star athletes and make them efficient. Cade is a perfect fit, but so are a large number of players every year. This system works well for Minnesota, we largely can't compete with the blue bloods for the top tier guys, but Niko can pick and choose guys that fit and are 3 or 4 star players. The future is bright!

Yep, this year has shown Niko's systems can work in the Big Ten he just doesn't have the bodies right now due to all the injuries.

If he can get an 8-9 man rotation of hand picked players that fit his system I think he will be able to do some really good things here.

He would have been a bench guy this year and may end up with defensive honors. I'll miss him.
It would be interesting to see what he does with a full strength team. Having 8-9 solid guys would have changed a lot, especially in practice.

I don't think people understand how much Niko adapted this team in offensive tempo and defense due to all the injuries.

Nebraska did a good job of that, too. A couple well-coached teams.

When the guy on Reynolds defensively almost never comes out of the paint to guard him it makes it tough for us to run our picks and cuts. It really clogs things up for our offense. Also, when a team has a shot blocker waiting for us at the rim it seems to really intimidate our guys and causes us to re-think our shots. It sure would be nice if we had some guys who could finish with dunks.

yes, last night made it very evident just how undersized the team is this year. It's hard to play good solid defense with intensity when you start the game already thinking about not getting early fouls. It's like starting every game in foul trouble before the tip!

Running the quick numbers, tiebreakers, and schedule, we need the following to get to the 11 seed (and avoid playing in the afternoon 12 v 13 game on Wednesday):

Washington over USC tonight
Gophers over Northwestern Saturday
UCLA over USC Saturday
Oregon over Washington on Saturday

That would leave us as the #11 seed and only 8-12 team in the B1G. Anything else and we'll lose the tiebreaker against USC or Washington.

Tall order but...let's beat Northwestern regardless.
Sorry to be the douchey guy bumping his own post, but hot damn!!
