***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT ILLINOIS IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

If Niko can upgrade the talent next year, we’ll be in business. Dude can coach.
He will get the talent. Word is traveling that this guy is a great coach who gets players good looks and a chance to maximize themselves in a team setting. He turned a guy who couldn't get off the bench into a star in the Big Ten. Good players will buy into that.

Wonder if Kyan Evans who only played 10 minutes for UNC in loss today regrets not following Niko?

The money North Carolina paid him made the decision rather one sided.
Did it?
The present money is higher, but the exposure to people across the country and to NBA scouts is lower. Sometimes you take the lower paying job because the eventual pathway is much better for better pay later.

Exactly....if you have NBA aspirations then there is more to it then just the dollar signs that get thrown at you. If you are smart you should also factor in where you will get the best chance to put what you can do on film.

Evans is starting for UNC so it has worked out OK for him but he might have been an even bigger part of the offense had he come here instead.

Looked at a few NC boards and it's non stop hating on Kyan. No chance he's back next year. Get him Niko

I would be interested to know how many Big Ten games in the last 20 years the Gophers have had a 16+ free-throw differential in. I understand that being a ref is a thankless job, but it's frustrating as a fan to see our team not get the same calls that other teams get.

This team needs a hot shooting night soon. I really like seeing the effort this team puts in, and I hope they are rewarded soon with a game where they go nuclear from 3.

Have you seen his numbers? If the kid has pro aspirations, his current stint at UNC has done nothing to further those. Yeah, he's played a fair amount of minutes (5th on the team) but his numbers are bad. Player Efficiency Rating is 7.1 (for comparison, Shinholster's is 9.0). True Shooting Percentage is .466 (UNC team average is .578; Minnesota team average is .564).

A post above says that UNC fans are grumbling quite a bit about him. I can see why. It's not like his soph year at CSU was outstanding overall. He had a great shooting season (.645 TS%) but he was not a particularly prolific scorer (10.6 pts/gm) and his player efficiency rating was just average.

All of this is true, Twisty...and his reputation as a player was certainly amplified with his performance in the tourney last year.

With that said, having him here this season would've made us a better team overall. The extra body on the roster itself would be worth it but having another ballhandler to compliment Reynolds would really help. He's also proven in the past that our offensive scheme is suited for his style of play, too.

Evans wouldn't be a savior next season but coming back to play for Medved could be beneficial for both parties IMO. I hope it happens.

Agreed. He was really good in the MVC tournament championship too as I recall. I certainly don't have a problem with him coming here if Niko wants him. Since we don't need a lot of transfers, I think we might be able to do better but this player and coach do have a lot a familiarity with each other.

Agreed but to be fair that same kid was a star at one of the better mid majors in the country prior. If anything it shows you can have a bad experience somewhere but can get right under Niko
