We’ve got ourselves a West Coast test!!!! And it’s a late one!! After last weeks game was cut short and the competition was well, not good, we got a tough one this week.

This is a biggie. 2-0 vs 2-0. Both led by young QBS. This is a game we need to get a W if we are going to have a breakthrough season. This is also a game a mature team taking the next step wins.

Take your afternoon naps Gophers fans because we need your energy ALL. GAME. LONG!!! 9:30 kickoff in MN, 10:30 for our East Coast friends. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fans in attendance as well.

GET ‘ER DONE FLECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mentioned that an elderly Minnesota fan hit my beer bong before the 2006 game, and went on to talk about it on John Maddens radio show

Well I now have evidence. So at least some experiences on frat row are good.

Enjoy the game!

Is Cal the most similar program to Minnesota?

  • Urban state flagship schools in pro markets
  • Similar recent and historical results
  • Golden (Insert Furry Brown Mascot)
  • Plays for an Axe against a red and white rival on the last week of the season
  • Cal has 5 really old Nattys, Minnesota has 7
  • Cal ended Minnesota's three-peat in 1937
  • Cal opened Memorial Stadium in 1923, Minnesota in 1924
  • Cal is 12-13 all time in bowls, Minnesota is 13-12

I often said Pitt or Georgia Tech before but there's a lot of of similarities to Cal, too.

The all important nerd meter has Cal up 100 to 1.

Just at quarterback :)
The highlights of this 5 star QB from the earlier games are scary. He gets the ball out fast and the velocity is impressive. He reminds me of Michael Pinnix.

DC Danny Collins needs to bring some Tracy Claeys/ Brian Flores style heat to get the young QB questioning things. I fear if we let this QB get comfortable and rely on the DB play without enough pressure, the guy could get in a big groove.

He was a 5-star now??
a couple services upgraded him to 5 star, as far as high school recruits go. iirc, 2 were at 4 and 2 were at 5 in the final tally. all this came late, because it was a very middling 3 star until he blew up at the elite 11 last summer

most places rated him a 4 star transfer, because then he's judged against guys who have played in college. i think the consensus is "he's pretty good"

That makes sense. Thank you

Riding in the taxi from the SF airport to our hotel: let’s win the game for Stan!
Spending your Saturday in SF don't stop at Chinatown. Its a hell hole. Fishermans Warf is a fun spot and not far from the bridge and Alcatraz. We had had a great meal there. Spendy but worth it, Sorry but I cant remember the place we ate. It was exceptional. Ask the local fisherman about the best place to get great seafood.

Considering that’s typically my bed time, I’ll just say good luck tonight and hopefully my prediction stays true! Ski U Mah!
I’ll be sleeping here on the east coast long before kick off. I’ll be up at 0500 and hopefully get the whole game in before granddaughter wakes up.

So if I am reading this right you think we should try and get pressure on the QB as opposed to just letting him stand in the pocket.....got it.....

Don't mean to be a prick but think it is pretty obvious that the D is going to try and bring as much pressure as possible to make the young inexperienced QB as uncomfortable as possible and force him into making mistakes.....it is basically football 101.

The kid is clearly talented, but I feel very confident that we have the best D he has played against in his career to this point so will be interesting to see how he holds up. Said in another thread that Anthony Smith needs to introduce himself early in the game and let him know it is going to be a long night.

I am concerned about this game. I am not sure we win this one on the road.
Especially without the starting RB.

Ive always considered Washington a good comparison point. Big city, pro sports, not a historical dynasty (though some stretches if significant success)

Some (not me) like to laugh at the absurdity of Cal being in the Atlantic Coast Conference. If I were to launch a boat from the shores in the image above and navigate the waters westward, I could eventually make it to the shores of the eastern seaboard. Who is to tell me that I wasn’t traversing the waters of the Atlantic all along? What if it is all Atlantic coast?
