***OFFICIAL MICHIGAN STATE AT MINNESOTA, IZZO TO COMPLIMENT MEDVED POST-GAME IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Storming the court isn't the same without the commemorative print. 🤡

All right. I think I forgive at least the last four losses for this win.

Wow, just wow! Michigan State has some exceptional athletes and they went ballistic even more than I thought they could in those last few minutes but the team kept plugging until they got what seemed like an insurmountable lead. Turns out, it was. Those last few minutes were a hell of an experience.

Some wins are worth more than others and this one is one to relish.

Yep. Torvik has a stat called F.U.N. (fortune unexplained by numbers) and the Gophs rank #346.

MSU's real not-so-secret ingredient is rebounding. They are #6 at offensive rebounding, which atones for their pedestrian shooting numbers. They are also #1 at defensive rebounding.

They also have this statistical quirk that they've had for multiple years - they allow opponents to shoot a very high number of 3FGAs, but the defensive 3FG% is very good. Part of what explains that is rim protection - they're #14 in blocks, meaning teams are forced to be perimeter-oriented - but usually, allowing a lot of 3s isn't generally associated with good defense. MSU's defense is #2 overall. It'd be interesting to know their secret.
Probably " Guard the paint, but if you let them have a 3, be sure to close out and at least challenge it with-out fouling.", or something to that effect.

At least 3 more wins for sure.
Given the number of close loses with a depleted roster I think we definitely could have been somewhere around .500 in conference games and on the bubble for the tournament at least.

Seriously! Those last 3 3-point shots were something else!
Especially the corner one with Asuma blanketing him with great defense, he basically just chucks it and it goes in....thank goodness we were able to hit enough free throws down the stretch to keep them from being able to force OT or steal the win in regulation.

Wire to wire never in doubt. I haven’t read through all the posts but this is what has me fired up.

-Sparty bigs cooper and kohler were totally neutralized. Like how is that even possible? Every time I tune into MST those guys are making huge plays. JCJ was doing work!

-Starting the game, Durkin was matched up against Carr. Carr never did anything against him. How? Lol I saw that matchup and was terrified.

-Michigan state was running the tubby smith offense for most of the game. How the heck with basically an iron 5 playing were we controlling the pace of the game!? Did MST have any fast break points? I felt bad how many long twos they were forced into!

-I think every coach in this league is thinking (f***, this Medved guy is the real deal). I don’t think any team in the league with the injuries we’ve had could fight like this game in and game out.

This was 100% a gameplan W!

Massive stretch coming up to stack some wins!

It took a guy literally getting kicked in the nuts to avoid the metaphorical kick in the nuts.
Well, he obviously didn't "Square Up The Shot" judging from Reynolds reaction. Still, not bad for a "first time I tried this in a game" No-Look, Reverse, Mule Kick! :) I actually don't think I've ever seen that one before. Glad to see Izzo giving him the "try not to ever do that again" talking to. He looked a little disgusted with his guy there.

SISU!!!
Had another event so I just finished the game.
Like I said at the beginning of this thread, the boys had to tap into SISU and keep fighting. What a great win over Michigan State and a coach that is used to condescending comments when he beats the Gophers. It's so nice to finally make him walk away with a loss.
