Same. 6-year-old. Not crying, but wondering why Dad was so down... Confused.
It hurts.

never got kids involved in watching sports, we golf on Saturdays and Sundays.walks, fish, anything but watch--crappy way to spend time---I cried so hard at losses on the pro and college level as a kid--hated it, vowed kids would never waste their time

Sigh.

The issues: after Maye 4th down catch, use 17 sec. Then use 29 sec. after the Leidner run. Then 20 sec. left 1 TO and only run 2 plays. Man.

No Gopher fan (or anyone associated with the program) deserved this. I can't believe that we have to go through something like this again. For 3 1/2 quarters the Gophers got every break which almost never happens. A couple poor throws resulted in huge gains, a screen that should have been a pick 6 was dropped by Michigan's best player, a couple key penalties on the Wolverines in big spots...and then: they pick up the flag on the hit on Mitch, the defense allows a backup QB to complete a 3rd and 10 for a touchdown and then can't stop the same backup QB on the 2 point conversion. That last drive was baffling from a clock management standpoint the entire way down the field, but the last 19 seconds was truly a clown show of the highest degree. How do you not know the clock is going to run when the ball is marked for play? I was indifferent to going for it/kicking it, but if the sneak isn't there, there has to be a plan B. It is interesting that a team that was so conservative with it's play calling at times during that game decided to go for it with the game on the line.

A sincere hats off to the players for the effort they gave tonight, this hurts them a lot worse than it hurts us.

I need to do the same the same thing. There is so little joy in this. Gotta get my kid off of it. Only way to do it is no TV in the house. We do it during the summer months. Need to make it a year round thing and if I feel the need to torture myself i can watch the game in the bar by myself.

It'll be interesting to see how Claeys handles this. He obviously knows how badly they effed up. Old TE/QB was heroic tonight. Too bad they pissed it away. Lost by 12 inches.

I know Claeys will take the heat for the mishap at the end of the game, but Limegrover needs to be held accountable as well. Pathetic!

I am ok with the time management, until the end.

The odds did not favor us making it as far as we did, so it seemed we were playing to get into FG range with as little time left as possible. Once we accomplished getting into FG range (the 27 yd line with 1:17 left), we ran some more time off the clock with a Leidner run (good) and then took a shot to the end zone (good) with 20-some seconds left, which unfortunately for us was down at the 1/2 yard line.

But yeah, once we got down there, you have to be able to run at least 3 plays. Major screw up by the coaches there. Really Ugh.

I probably run first down. Spike on second. Throw on third. Field goal 4th.

The thing with a run. If it isn't clear. They likely have to review it. Giving you time to call a play and get lined up.

Letting that 17 seconds run was the worst thing that could have happened aside from a fumble or INT.

This. I was screaming in shocked disbelief that they were pissing away the clock.

I don't think this has been mentioned, but with all that simultaneous movement it is risky for an illegal motion or false start, which would have been a 10 second runoff and game over.

Pretty solid effort and execution for most of the game but the horrible clock management and losing this one in excruciating fashion is what will be remembered. Don't know what the staff was thinking or who was really at fault but I could see we were short of the endzone live and the first shot of the replay confirmed. Someone upstairs should have seen the replay right away and told the coaches on the field that he was short and to have a play ready and the coaches have to know the clock is gonna start right away in that situation. Throw a fade on first down, QB sneak, a lead play, PA pass, whatever they should have had a play ready to go and then if you run and get stopped short you can use your timeout and call a couple passes after that. I like the call to go for the win and probably would have called QB sneak too biggest problem with getting a push on that one was Michigan had about 3 guys offsides it was easy to see and should have been called.

Disagree.

Not a 10 second run off if we use our timeout.

This. I was screaming in shocked disbelief that they were pissing away the clock.

Even my 8 year old screamed "snap the damn ball!" I mean... How the.... What just .... Such an important game - pack house, Halloween, coach just freaking had to retire, national prime time TV, tons of recruits at the game and we..... Chit the bed. Then We roll around in it. The we chit in the bed some more.

We had a TO left (assuming you're talking about the first down play), so no run off would have occurred.

Edit- sorry, see GII beat me to it.

After all the "23 years of coaching together" all these guys learned is how to lose in the most comic fashion in the history of college football.

Hey! I know what to do!! Let's go down to the old mill by the river and put on a show. That will inspire everyone. Spanky, you take the tickets. Darla, you can sing "God Bless America" and I'll sing "The Barber of Seville!"

The punt is overshadowed by the ending but what a mind numbing decision that was.

Mods - why do you combine all the threads. Your goal is traffic, posts, and views correct? Combining threads kills that.

Dumbest coaching effort ever. You could try your hardest to coach worse, and you would fail.

The Mighty Karnak answers "Coaching an FCS Team."

The question inside the envelope reads..... "Where will this coaching staff be next year."

The positive is we get an extra hour tonight to think about it.

Since we all feel ****ty, can someone start a poll? I'm on Tapatalk:

Which hurts most?

A) Wisconsin, 2003: Take the safety.
B) Michigan, 2003: Is their RB an eligible receiver?
C) Michigan, 2015: 19 seconds of fail.
D) Add your own Gophers heartbreak

Oh, and Pete Carroll called. He said thanks for bumping me down to #2 on the list of greatest coaching fails from the 1 yd line.

I guess I'm the only one that really enjoyed the game, until the end of course. We've seen so much poor clock management under Kill I'm shocked you guys are as up in arms about this as you are. The second to last play call is on Limegrover. The decision to not kick the field goal was Claeyes.

They should feel heat for the decisions made, particularly Limegrover. I'm ok with going for the win, although its probably not something I would have done. Many coaches play for the win rather than OT. If it had worked he'd be a genius.

That said, the guys played a hell of a game. A hell of a game. This is a team we were predicted to lose to by 21 points!

I had a great time, and I think we have brighter days ahead. We will be competitive in every game.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the whole game, in fact, everyone was excited about the whole game which makes the last 19 seconds even more heartbreaking. I am slowly getting over it because I honestly prefer Claeys over Kill as the head coach. Will Claeys compare to Kill in terms of off the field? I don't think so, but it is what it is. That said... 19 seconds left!?!

any reason we stopped catching or returning punts in the 4th quarter-- it cost us lots of field possession on both of those vert returnable punts

On the play that started with 19 seconds left-- is it Leidner that changed plays that set everyone in motion or is that part of the original play design?

It seemed to be part of the design, but who knows.
