***OFFICIAL IOWA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Selective perception. NO ONE could have coached some of those teams. Injuries have harpooned more than one Pitino season. If Coffey is on this team, A) we are not one of the youngest teams in the country and B) we win at least 5 more games and can be talking about top 4-5 seed. You can't control everything as a coach.
"Selective perception."

Oh, the irony

"Selective perception."

Oh, the irony

Yep.

Check out the talk from fans of every team that doesn't win and you'll see the same old lines: (ie...If only that one guy had been eligible to play; if only this guy hadn't gotten hurt; if only that player wouldn't have gotten into trouble off the court; if only we had just a little more depth; if only the ref had made this call instead of missing; if only we hadn't turned the ball on that possesion and so on and so son and so on).

Using these lines works for maybe one, two or three years.

But when it's year seven and the same things are being said year after year after year after year, it might be time to start altering the "what if" mindset.

At some point, you would think that folks might get the hint that things are what they are. In other words, not good enough.

Some fans ever get there.

Then we should fire the guy who was in charge of recruiting.

Are you thinking that no one would have coached here for 7 years and not done better !
Of course not, but perception of pitino are biased because they fail to take into account extraneous factors that limited his options. Johnson medical. Curry injuries. Coffey opts out. Dupree stress fracture. Oturo shoulder surgery. All hampered bench strength, off season developments etc. a coach can only play the hand they are dealt.

Friendly reminder that Iowa is missing three players (by injury/transfer/going pro early) who would be in their starting 5. And that doesn't even count the fact that Fredrick has missed some games due to injury this year. The only selective perception is to assume that we are the only team hurt by missing players.

Ok. Right. And how many Iowa fans are sick of fran’s red face, but ignore those facts when looking at their road record. You give Fran those bodies and Iowa is right there with Maryland fighting for 2 seed. Kalschuer can’t guard weiskamp and bohanon and Frederick. Which is why barring injury, Iowa should be a top 8 team next year if, when, They return everyone. If Garza blows an acl, that’s not on Fran. You can’t just go out & replace someone unless there is a grad transfer available and the timing if the injury works.

I think both sides of this argument can be right to some extent. Iowa is a good example of a team able to overcome injuries. But they're kinda an outlier IMO. Most teams would take a step back if they were to lose several key pieces. Would things be different for MN if Carr was given immediate eligibility last year like he should have? Or if Coffey stayed for another year? Or how about if Curry doesn't get hurt and develops into the player it looked like he would? Just one of those things happen and I think things could be different.

At the same time the program should still be in better shape than it is in year 7 even with all those things. The Iowa game was inexcusable. Just can't happen. I want to see the rest of the season play out but if things don't change drastically, I think it's time to move on.
