***OFFICIAL GOPHERS VS MICHIGAN IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Pitino sending a message to Mo that he has to rebound to stay in the game.

Good. Maybe the Gophers can get their only center into foul trouble.

Another situation in which Pitino should have called a timeout and set up a play of some sort.

Not a bad half. Michigan is clearly beatable. Gotta expect them to heat up a little in the 2nd half though.

They will heat up, but if don't give them 27 offensive rebounds that should offset.

Is it just me or is the arena a morgue this afternoon?

Aside from the students occasionally making noise, it seems like the rest of the fans just sit and watch.

Noticed that as well. Even when Michigan was up big early on it sounded like there was a scrimmage going on.

Kinda off topic, but I really like how ESPNU has a halftime clock so you know about when the 2nd half will start. They do that for football as well. I wonder why the other stations don't do it.

But he did try to double on the perimeter so his man could dunk the ball.

I don't remember him doubling. Nobody else really covered the guy and nobody went into the post area either when Elliot left it. Next time when Elliot went to the wing, Andre went to the post.

Amazing that they are up at half the way that they have looked. Now come out and play a cleaner second half and a W is sure to be found.

Wow- we have some guys that are just not playing well right now. Matheui, Mason, Eliason.... I feel we are pretty fortunate to be ahead. Michigan is going to hit some threes in the second half- we will have to play a whole lot better than we did the first half to win. Start by getting some boards. We gave them 6 extra possessions by TOs and offensive rebounds (net).

If we can commit 0 TOs and give up zero offensive rebounds for the rest of the season, we will be National Champions. Same goes for any other team.

My guess is that it is basically a clock for how long you don't have to pay attention, therefore you aren't paying attention to their halftime show/advertising/etc.

Actually, no...no one else took Albrecht, so he had to stick with him. Then, no one (Hollins) helped with his man.

Agreed. Other than that three point shot Joey hit, I wish Pitino would have left Buggs in a little longer.

Looked like Joey saw EE about to defend a guard on the perimeter and thought "this could be bad" ran out to help, maybe expected EE to drop back to the post or Morris to rotate over to the hoop.

Hadn't noticed the halftime clock until you mentioned, but that is pretty nifty.

I'd just like us to out rebound the opponent and have less turnovers than the opponent. It's not too much to ask. Treat each possession as though it matters...because it does.

tbh, i would rather have a big on Albrecht than no one covering the post. Albrecht is really not a threat once he gets inside.

Totally agree. Amazing to be ahead!

Dre Mat MUST play stronger and look for his shot; he's backed off his offensive jumper game most of the B1G season.

Interior help defense has been a recurring problem with this team all year long and it's not just Hollins. At least Hollins did go to the post the next time Elliot went to the wing. It's been even more noticeable when the center picks up someone driving into the paint especially through the baseline and an opposing player slips behind the center to take a pass undefended.

King - zero rebounds in the 1st half....As good as he is fundamentally in other areas of the game one would think he could clean the rebounding issue up a bit.

They are making mistakes that a veteran team shouldn't make.
* Walker - time to man up and do your job on the boards and on defense. Stop trying to block 15 foot jumpers and instead box somebody out.
* Eliason - love the hustle, but get your feet stabilized under you on offense so the shots aren't off-balance. On the free throw line, concentrate on breathing out during - or something - anything - so that you're not concentrating on missing it. If you could shoot free throws you'd be getting 30 minutes a game.
* Hollins - I know you're injured, but be aware of where you are on defense. You lose your man often and give up easy layups. On offense, do what you can to regain your ability to drive to the hoop and draw fouls, as your best weapon is FT shooting.
* Mathieu - get your hands facing outward instead of pushing downward on D. Those foul calls you get, whether touchy or not, are called because of hand-checking and reaching, primarily. On offense, shoot more often.
* Rest of the team - BOX OUT on defense. And work the ball around on offense, don't just chuck up a shot the first partially-open shot you get.

King also suffers from the disease of "Idonotboxoutism"
