***OFFICIAL GOPHERS V NORTHWESTERN GAME THREAD!!!***

Love this comment. Basketball is not baseball, but Joe Mauer is 'Mr I don't need to ever sweat tonight and if we win or lose I couldn't care less.'

So I take it you won't be there when we retire his number?

Interesting note: Deandre Matheui has now missed 17 straight three point shots. He started the Big Ten season hitting his first 5 threes and has not made one since the 5th game of the conference schedule. He has shot 37% in BT play and averaged 7 points per game in BT games. By contrast last year he averaged 12 points a game and shot 49% on threes. Tough year for the kid.

I blame it on the kid.

I'm not joking.

Apparently little Dre he had one shot go in about a year ago.

Such a depressing game. Is it some bad luck as well that we played this team right on the heels of them beating Iowa? The BT is hard to figure out this year. Some years the losses are more more predictable but every team has some inexplicable ones this year.

On the plus side, this home loss to a terrible Northwestern team hurts a lot less than last year's home loss to a terrible Northwestern team.

I guess you're getting used to home losses to terrible Northwestern teams. After all, our four true freshmen put up 39 points on your seasoned vets tonight.

This is a troubling loss, there is no other way to spin it. As I've stated before, it would be foolish to give up on Pitino this early, but I don't see things turning around anytime soon. Look at next season's roster...it's going to be very young with little size. There is some promising young players in the pipeline, but these embarrassing losses are not helping recruiting. If Pitino takes another step back next season, it could be trouble. Personally, I like Pitino and his straightforward style. I just don't know how long he will last if he keeps losing. I don't think anyone in the right mind would project this team to win 10 games in the Big 10 entering next season with the paper-thin front court and young guards.

Mason can ball. Great pickup by Richard.

I have them at 4-14 next year in conference play. They will have no low post play. A major mistake to bring in two foreign kids who didn't start playing basketball till their early high school years. One is a foul machine and the other is completely lost out there on both sides of the ball. Yes they're both athletic, but both are still learning basketball 101. The "big " they're bringing in next year is very raw.
It will be interesting to see how they use their 3 open scholarships. Right now we've no length with experience other than Joey King and Buggs. We've guards and small wings in the mix right now. So far the only recruiting success Pitino has had is Nate Mason. Josh Martin was a bust and Carlos Morris is a Chinese fire drill. For you Pitino huggers you'll have to give him to year four. I didn't like the the hire,
but I'm rooting for him. Coaching changes every five years is not good.

Collins had his guys ready to play, and they played with vigor. They could easily be discouraged by their record and pack it in, but they're not. I admit, I loved their emotion and effort.
