***OFFICIAL GOPHERS V NORTHWESTERN GAME THREAD!!!***

This is the FIFTH time this year the Gophers have lost as Vegas favorites, with just one win all year as Vegas underdogs. Tonight the Gophers were 10.5 point favorites against Northwestern...to put that in perspective the biggest underdogs the Gophers have been all year was 9.5 points in the opener against Louisville.

This season speaks extremely poorly of both Pitino and this Senior class.

Undersized and underwhelming. Could have been the motto for this years team.

Little Richard will need to reevaluate after this season to figure out what he needs to make things work.

Anybody think Coach Pitino will leave for a better job after a couple years?

reluctant to switch defenses when we can not get out to stop the three point shot?
playing guys so young they dont know what to do?
getting zero production from guys that should be better than they are showing?

is it time to put young Pitino on the hot seat?

It'd be nice if I could pretend to care about the women's team, but I'd be lying to myself.

You should give them a watch on a lazy afternoon sometime. Maybe they'll surprise you (maybe not), but if you're a basketball fan, you should be moderately entertained at the very least. :)

Gophers shot 87.5% FT tonight; 76.5% at Indiana. Hope you guys are glad they were spending time focusing on 'em in practice in recent weeks! Really paying off!
Are you implying this team has other issues? ?

You mean FT's don't matter as much when very few are shot? Wow. How insightful.

I hope you enjoy watching 'red shirt' Andre Hollins lead the team in scoring.

Two parting thoughts:

1. Bryant McKintosh looks like Michael Jackson without all the hair.
2. The guys should be embarrassed. Pitino should be embarrassed too.

I know. I'm just bitter. I'll follow the women, just can never get to excited.

I feel ya, it sucks. Can only hope we have Mason, Dorsey and maybe a nice transfer to look forward to next season. Maybe we'll get some good recruiting news soon too. This season is going to be forgettable though.

Never seen a bigger POS than you. How's that working out for you?

reluctant to switch defenses when we can not get out to stop the three point shot? We've been playing zone a lot lately but he switched to man after they started hitting a bunch of 3's. It didn't matter what defense we were in.
playing guys so young they dont know what to do? Would you rather we only have four guys on the floor?
getting zero production from guys that should be better than they are showing? Agreed

He deserves another two years but I have not been impressed. This year has been very disappointing. At the very least, his seat is certainly warming up and the honeymoon is officially over.

I'm sure they are. Pitino has gotten a real schooling this year. Maybe after last year's NIT championship and a decent record he thought he was on his way. He better get at least two more players who can help for next year.

Not intending to draw any comparisons, but he's having the same coaching issue Tubby had here when it comes to defending the three. Just killers for the Gophers under both coaches the past 6 years or so.

Just a horrible effort tonight starting with porous team defense. Embarrassing to think we have lost 2 straight at The Barn to a pathetic program like Northwestern and really in both situations everyone knew going into the game we couldn't afford a loss. Really disappointed in a couple seniors tonight with the pathetic play from Mo and Deandre. Mo was super soft on the offensive end tonight and continues to refuse to kick the ball out to open shooters as well as putting a body on someone when there is a rebound opportunity. Deandre was real careless with the ball and might be the most frustrating player to watch for me. The reffing was horrible and very inconsistent tonight as well but that is a ways down the list of why the Gophers lost tonight.

A real Joe Mauer type effort by the boys tonight.

Love this comment. Basketball is not baseball, but Joe Mauer is 'Mr I don't need to ever sweat tonight and if we win or lose I couldn't care less.'

Duke has tied it up and Tyus Jones has led the comeback. Just a little twist of the knife after tonight's loss to NW.

I agree with your comments about our players but let's be fair to Northwestern. They have some talent and they didn't play like a pathetic team tonight. The result wasn't due solely to our team's incompetence.

He's had significantly more success as a ballplayer than anybody on the court tonight ever will. (Lousy season last year, I'll grant).

Of the bright side, at least Joey and Mo were able to muster 10 rebounds combined this game...

I don't know, not every player is a born leader and needs to show loads of emotion. He was one of the best players in the MLB a couple years ago.

But anyway, something was missing tonight. There was only one or two times it looked like the Gophs played with emotion

We would be lucky to have this be a team of Joe Mauer's.

Record number of threes by Indiana followed by 46.9% from the three by Northwestern isn't just running into a hot team, it is indicative of a very bad defense, not sure Pitino has any clue what it will take and how to get there. I'm afraid they might not win again this year, they could get run off the floor in the next three games.

I will say they have a couple nice freshmen but really the rest of their roster is pretty bad and this is absolutely a game where if the Gophers even play semi-decent they win.

How's the blog doing? Will it be successful enough so that you can move out of your parents' basement?

Wisconsin will beat us by 35. This team/coaching staff deserves to be booed off the floor tonight.

No. What will happen is we will play a very good game against Wisconsin and put out an effort that would have beaten Northwestern by 10 +. However, against Wisconsin they will lose by 8. This is the sign of a truly mentally weak team. Play just good enough to lose. This is probably the most frustrating team I have ever seen here. Monson had some bad squads but I didn't expect anything from some of those squads. This team just is gutless. Next year should start tomorrow in practice. Post season hopes are DONE. Other than Hollins- I won't miss any of these guys, nice as they may be in a Charmin soft sort of way.

...and the commercials were particularly repetitive and annoying.
