***OFFICIAL GOPHERS-UCLA NCAA TOURNEY IN-GAME THREAD***

0-2 on the all important 1 and 1's so far...Trev is about 3 for 19 this year on 1 and 1's.

Gophers did a nice job of getting 10 points in transition or beating them down the court after made baskets. That will be key in the 2nd half.

Muhammed WILL make some shots eventually and much like Henderson and Ole Miss, this game is only gonna get tighter.

Do not play Oto or Welch anymore! and Rodney and Coleman do something!

I don't want to be negative here, but I think I finally found out why, besides going for the block too often = that our defensive rebounding isn't very good. I watched Mbakwe on one of the Ryan Wear put-backs. He had position on Wear, and was on the back side of the rim on a ~8 foot shot. Instead of boxing out Wear and keeping position, however, he laid no body on him. The ball bounced back to the front side, and Wear easily got around a still Mbakwe for the easy board and bunny putback. This lack of boxing out on the defensive end, however, has typified what I've seen out of Mbakwe and Rodney much of the season.

It's too late to correct this anymore, it is what it is; but I think Mbakwe is so used to fighting and gaining position on the offensive end of the ball, where he's used to fighting around the boxout, that perhaps he forgets to box out on the defensive end.

Trying to block / prevent every shot is what got Rodney his second foul, too. Gotta pick your spots out there.

I heard the rumor that the rims on one end of the Austin court were bad today. Was that the right or left end of the TV screen...the Gophers had been heading right. Thus, will the Gophers or UCLA be heading into the "bad" direction in the 2nd half?

We may have received the best draw in the tourney getting UCLA from what they've shown so far. They look confused and disorganized. But they've got to start shooting better. Let's avoid the eight minute scoring drought and keep the pressure on them.

Trevor's been frightful at the line. They'll definitely be employing hack-a-trev if we hold the lead.

Trev gets hot at the line every so often. Let's hope that starts in the last 20 minutes.

The announcers mentioned it in both games. The rim to their 'right'. I assume that's the one we were at in the 1st half, but I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, the Gophers have the tight rims in the 2nd half:(

Verified. That's what I heard.

I thought this was the case too.

If they deploy hack-a-trev then they may have to play the student trainers.

Interesting. If it is the TV's right, then the Gophers will be heading toward the Left in the 2nd half; good. However, if it's to the announcers' right, then won't that be the opposite direction of the TV? Was it too hard for either of those guys to properly explain which team was going which way?

Ouch! Pretty bad display of hoops especially by UCLA.

UCLA has to make a run at some time during the game. The Gophs need to keep hacking away and stay away from a cold streak.

Now that you all mentioned it...both the rims did sound like loose crap.

Both rims sound like something is loose -- UCLA will make a run - have to answer that. And make FT's (Trevor)

Simple solution...don't hit the rim!!! (and not in an air-balling fashion)

Tight rims on one end? Its not like we had any shots bounce off the rim and go in...Miss the rim...Use backboard or swish it.

So we beat UCLA and Florida then who??? SDSU?? That's Elite 8 baby!

Three glaring things about the officials before the half starts.
1. Giving S. Muhammed kid gloves/superstar treatment.
2. Missing a lot of blatant moving picks on the part of UCLA.
3. Missed some push in the backs on some Gopher layups that, by the touchy way they were calling things, deserved to be and-1s.

They've been pretty fair overall, but I do think they favored UCLA slightly in the first half.
