*** OFFICIAL GOPHERS/SYRACUSE IN-GAME THREAD ***

Disappointing loss. I think we were out-coached in the first half, and the team came out flat and lacked discipline. I don't get how you go up against a team that is stout against the run and start the game with a 2:1 run to pass ratio. Hunt killed us all game running after breaking from the pocket, we should have been able to adjust for that. Obviously, this game could have easily gone the other way, but I think we were the better team and should have won.

I was right and this entire board......

....was wrong. After the UW I complained about Limegrover and the offense. I got absolutely hammered by every poster on this board. In that game we scored zero offensive points after a bye week to prepare. Our offense has been no better since. But yet ill still be known as the irrational poster following the UW game even though I was dead on.

Tonight's loss kills me. I've barely missed a home game since '85. Big a fan as there is. Maybe next time a fellow Gopher fan like me posts something valid we wont be attacked by fellow gopher fans.

Glad you're happy you were right.

If you want to watch a team with a coaching staff that believes in throwing the ball against a defense that has a stout running defense, you better switch teams. Kill and Co. will not pass the ball on any regular basis no matter how tough of a run defense we face. Kill is going to run, run and run no matter how ineffective it is.

He's going to run because he knows we don't have a quality passer -- even when we can pass, we don't have receivers who can catch the ball.

Where did the innovative offense go, after the Nebraska and Indiana game? Limegrover seemed to be the MVP of the Nebraska game. What has happened since then?

Lack of discipline. Lack of concentration, lack of focus. Big setback for the program. The most disappointing loss of the Kill era. This will lower expectations for next year.

Agreed. Totally uninspired play. No effort. No composure. We do not have a QB.

Plain and simple........The Gophers did not show up.......totally pathetic.

Probably the most uninspired I have ever seen a Gopher team.

Agree. Mort went for distance instead of hang time and out punted the coverage.

no, mort went down the middle of the field.. should have gone to a sideline. then you only have to cover 1/2 of a field

Uh, maybe, Jerry Kill should recruit a WR once in his tenure here. We have a QB recruit trying to play WR. Another freshman at WR. So far we have 0 in this upcoming class. Engel is a SR. What happens next year with what they have on roster? Could use a Juco Wr in this class.

Not everyone attacked you; I didn't and wouldn't on the subject. Limegrover seems like he can rise to the occasion from time-to-time but overall I agree with what someone said earlier; that we have the worst OC in the Big Ten. We also have to worry about our QB coach because our guys have not gotten better.

What great WR recruit would want to play here when we're not a passing team?

Uh, it's tough when you lose three upperclassmen. Engel is hurt. Barker quit on the team. Crawford-tuff doesn't want to play football anymore. I agree we need more playmakers at WR but I don't think it is all on the coaches.

Add in McDonald's trouble and you can see why there is a problem.

But developing and recruiting are on the coaches. Barker's departure and McDonald's off-field shenanigans were largely before signing day last year. They got 2 receivers and and athlete who played more QB in last year's class. WR has been a glaring need for a couple of years.

This is exactly my point, when a staff values it's identity over it's effectiveness- it's a problem. I wasn't expecting them to turn into a west coast offense, but attempting a more balanced attack when the situation calls for it is something a coaching staff should be able to do. They did it in the second half, but I'm not sure why they didn't work to it earlier on.

This reminded me a bit of the Iowa game. The staff admitted their approach was flawed in that game, that they tried to force their scheme rather than adapting to what the defense gave them.

Missouri recruited him as a WR. They seem to know a thing or two about WRs.

Couldn't agree more with this post.

To the staff's credit, they seemed to adjust more quickly this game then they did during the Iowa game.

It was great to see Jerry on the sideline. I still think they are a great staff and am glad we have them.

That's really not my point with Jones. My point being, Jones is still developing. After Engel went down, they didn't have any experienced receivers. They depended on 2 true freshman Wrs and a RS Fr TE in the passing game. You can say what you want about the departures, but there is still a lack of recruiting at the position. I don't think there was much development here either.

We've signed seven wide receivers the past two years. Not sure what else you want them to do.

It's pretty much impossible to predict that Barker will quit, DCT will decide not to play, and two players who would be experienced this year (Harbison and McDonald) got hurt and/or can't stay out of trouble.
