***OFFICIAL GOPHERS AT UW-MILWAUKEE IN GAME THREAD!!***

I am convinced Pitino and his coaches have no clue on how to teach rebounding.

Every time Morris has the ball, you know he's going to shoot or turn it over. No longer "squirrel", he is THE BLACK HOLE. He will never give up the ball intentionally to a team mate. So done with him.

We scour the globe to find guys like Konate and Diedhou, meanwhile there are two star guys (presumably) like Panoske and Arians in the area that are flat out better than them.

I am fully aware Morris has 24...however, I still don't think he looks for team mates enough. I just don't like his game.

I'm convivinced that they don't have a clue how to coach defense

Yep. Pitino desperately needed an assistant like Coach Mo, instead of all young guys who could recruit. It appears to be his undoing.

Morris destroys this team. He's awful on O and D. And whatever good he does do on O he ruins on D. Buggs is the same. Much better on O, but clueless playing defense. It really is amazing.

I feel the same way about Pitino now as I did about Tubby in 12-13. Indifferent. I'm not calling for his head, but I'm not defending him needing another season either. This team is more than one recruiting class away from being decent.

I suspect that might be a function of insecurity. Perhaps he didn't want an older and more experienced coach who might have shown him up.

I'm getting there. I was sold on him having next year. But this is just awful. There's no effort. The seniors are not good. The team is constantly lost. Just not pretty basketball offensively or defensively.

We had to go to Mali and Senegal to find 2 clowns who haven't played enough basketball to know the rules or basic fundamentals? What a joke. Pitino should be on the hot seat just having these guys on the roster. And these are the best centers we have. Why not give the schollies to some tall Herman Munster like MN kids who at least know the game.

You have to start wondering what the basketball IQ of this team is. Their PG dribbles the entire length of the floor and nobody tries to stop the ball and he takes it right down the lane for a layup with King and another Gopher flailing for the ball from outside the lane. No one seems to be able to grasp the basic concepts of the game.

4-11 from the line. That seems bad. Good thing free throws don't matter.

What did we shoot from 3? That is probably a much worse stat. Along with turnovers.

But the FT number is still terrible.

Yes. And that's the level we are at. A decent mid-major trying to play in the B1G.

A fair mid-major (us I mean) at best. I guess will have to see which Horizon League team loses to Milwaukee by about 9 at home to see our comparison.

Most knew there was going to be ups and downs with a young team this season but this certainly has the look of being a whole lot worse than just ups and downs.

Little production from the upperclassmen again. The least interested I have been in Gophers basketball in a long time.

5-17. UWM was 5-18. (That should improve our 350ish rating against the 3).

Agreed. My biggest issue is the inability to display consistent effort. That should be easy for anyone. Regardless of age.

+1. Even the 06-07 team had fired Monson and was playing hard for Coach Mo by now. I think it's the least interested I've ever been.

I was a fan of Pitino his first year, I was really impressed with what he got out of that first group. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in the second year, feeling that the poor record was in large part due to flat out choking by players more so than X's and O's. It's tough to defend him this year. The roster is poor, but their really is no excuse for it being this poor. The two scholarship guys who didn't play tonight should take that as a sign. If you can't get playing time on this team, you don't belong at a high major.

Making a high percentage of free throws is less important than hitting 3's, hitting field goals, and getting to the line a lot. Obviously it matters, but there are other factors which matter more.

Having watched a lot of Horizon League basketball in the past, the Gophers would be middle of the pack in that league. Milwaukee was picked third in that conference.

Who didn't play? Gilbert? And ?

Indeed it does. To those who say that Pitino should be given another year because everyone knew this would be a rebuilding year, I ask: Should a Minnesota coach (especially one with little successful history) be given a pass to field a team this bad even in a rebuilding year?

But it's something that should be a given. There are nights you won't hit your 3's or get to the line a lot. But it's not hard to consistently shoot 65% from the FT line instead of 45%.
