Best part of college hoops is the frequency of games compared to football. We get over one game and on to the next. We sit at 3-1 and we don't really feel good about it, but that's understandable given how we've played.

Cleveland State is probably most famous for the Jerry Tarkanian quote that the NCAA was so upset with Kentucky that it put Cleveland State on probation.

But they are usually decent for a mid-major and we are playing like a decent mid-major (at best) so we can't take anyone for granted.

I hope we score 20+ in the first half.

GET 'ER DONE JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're terrible - #249 on barttorvik.

This is a get right game for the Gopher offense as long as they limit turnovers and get on the defensive boards (countering the only things the Vikings do well). Also note that they take almost the fewest 3FGAs in the country and are bad when they do - pack it in defensively.

They're also short. One guy who's 6'9" plays and the rest are 6'6" and under. I suspect the gopher bigs will have their way.

Cake walk.

If it's not a cake walk then Coyle needs to "readjust" the coaching staff. Cleveland State is not a good team.

Cleveland State is not a good team.
There are still 100+ worse teams than this, and all the rest of the noncon games (excepting the holiday tourney) are in this vicinity or worse - they're all terrible. Cleveland St. has the added feature of not matching up well, either.

has anyone seen any injury updates? I saw a tweet - can't remember where - saying that Mike Mitchell is out for Tuesday's game and remains "week-to-week." Johnson reportedly said Mitchell still has swelling that needs to come down. But the tweet also suggested that Cochran could be out until January - which would be new. Previously, I thought Cochran was due back in December.

anybody have any intel on this?

MN Gopher fans be like--

Michigan State Narrowly Escapes Bowling Green--"Wow, Bowling Green has some really good players, esp that big guy".

Wisconsin Taken Down to the Wire vs UTRGV--"Wow, Rio Grande was long and had good shooters".

Minnesota Beats Yale With Second Half Rally--"Gophers suck! Purdue beat them by 8, and we could only win by 3". :)

Using the "Newman-Peterson" effect:
So you're saying the Gophers are B1G championship contenders! 😁

I don't have any special intel but I read something last week where Ben Johnson said that Mike Mitchell had a bad sprain and should be out two more weeks. He was hurt about 10 days ago so that would be a recuperation time of about three weeks. If this is accurate, I would look for him to return for the Thanksgiving day game.

As far as Cochran returning in January instead of December, I don't think it would make much difference to the Gophers' success until then. The two Big Ten games are in early December and he probably wouldn't have been ready at that point anyway. The other December games are against what appear to be our weakest nonconference opponents (Bethune-Cookman, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Morgan State).

It’s not likely Mitchell will be ready by Thanksgiving. He is most likely to return by conference play. The injury is worst than CBJ is telling folks.

Rankings are KenPom.

#192 Cleveland State (2-2 vs. Division 1)
@ #27 Michigan (L, 53-101)
@ #65 Kansas State (L, 64-77)
@ #265 Valparaiso (W, 75-67)
#310 Eastern Michigan (W, 71-63)

Honestly, I thought Mitchell fractured his leg when I saw the replay. I thought he'd be out for 6-8 weeks. In either case, it looked bad.

A memo was sent to the refs to hate on the Gophers again… It will start with the jump ball the ref will toss it up 3 inches toward Cleveland St side of center so they can win the jump and get a 2-0 lead against us…

Rigsby gets to the rim and then throws the ball back out to the perimeter. We huck a shot up as the clock hits zero.....

Seriously.....tell me what kind of offense we run?

Our inbounds plays are run with the urgency of DMV workers.....

That's COACHING!!!!!!

Gotta push the ball up and steal a basket before the D sets up.

Honestly....our half course offense is so bloody pathetic....that it makes no sense why we wouldn't push the ball up the court. A turnover isn't much worse than what we're getting already.
