We enter a 6 game stretch that I think will be pivotal to the future of Ben Johnson. Two of those games, tonight vs Central Michigan and against Bethune Cookman on Sunday are absolute must wins. But 4 games in 6 days, of which two are in Florida against solid teams, makes tonight's game vs Central Michigan an absolute have to have.

Next 6 games: two ideally should be gimmies and 4 games we'll likely be the underdog in Florida and early BT games. Ideal would be 4-2, or 3-3. Worse case scenario is 2-4 which likely means our chances of making the Tournament would be in big trouble, but if we go 1-5 in this stretch I see a scenario where Johnson may not be here for Christmas. Selection Sunday laid this out in another thread as well.

But, I am confident we win tonight and go 3-3 in this next 6 games.

It starts with tonight. We saw a bit of slight improvement against Cleveland State, let's build from there.

GET 'ER DONE JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Central Michigan isn’t good but they do play quality defense for a cupcake.

Would be nice to see the offense play welll and get some momentum. Because they are not total scrubs on that end

No, they don't play quality defense. On the plus side, they are fairly good at keeping opponents off the offensive glass. But, they jack up a lot of 3s and turn the ball over waaaay too much - like bottom 5 in all of college basketball - and they foul a lot. They are not undersized like the last opponent, however. They have the same color scheme as MN, so avoid throwing it to the wrong team, and this should be a 13+ point victory.

For a cupcake? Yes they do.

They are 140 in Kenpom on d. Which is much better than their 200+ overall rank.

140 defensively is solid for that level of buy game opponent. Only north Texas has a considerably better D that we’ve faced this year. Cleveland state is on par

They are way better than ODU, Omaha and Yale.

This team will not do well with Femi and Patterson at PG. Start Asuma at PG and push the ball up the court on rebounds and made shots. Walking the ball up court cuts time off the shot clock and gives the team little to no option for an offense. Hopefully, CBJ watch the last 11 minutes of the previous game to see how different this team is when Asuma is the PG, Femi being a defensive guy only and Patterson is sitting on the bench.

We will have to agree to disagree on what constitutes "good." There's a difference between Torvik and kenpom right now because Yale is a few ticks better on defense than CMU on that one, but regardless, "on a par with Cleveland St." is not what I consider good. But, compared with the absolute dregs of defense we'll see from FDU and Morgan St., CMU is good, I guess.

Like I said good for a cupcake. Good for big10? No.

But when you face 200+ net and Kenpom teams. This is among the higher end D you will get.

They have a tricky zone they can trot out against a team who can’t shoot well. And they’re we really solid defensively last year too when they were in league play punching against their own weight class.

It’s a solid test to get ready before facing real teams Thursday.

I'm surprised they're that good at defensive rebounding if they zone a lot.

They should not be a test for the Gophers defense if they continue to cough it up on 25% of possessions.

I don't have stats for how much they go to zone I just know they have one they can go to

But yes, they turn it over a ton. Gophers D should be able to have their way with them. Never doubt Minnesota futility but this should of course be one we win rather comfortably.

Ah, Central Michigan University in Mt Pleasant. Had a vendor there that use to take me to this fabulous restaurant, The Embers. Not the local one we Twin Citians all remember, but a white tablecloth place. They served a peas and peanuts salad that was to die for. I think they closed just before the '08 recession. I should see if I can find that recipe. Probably wouldn't be as good if I made it.
Sorry. I know this doesn't have anything to do with the game.

Go Gophers!

Hum...Excellent. Miracle Whip. That might just be the secret ingredient. I would have guessed Mayo. I'm going to try this for the Xmas holiday.

The coldest place on earth for a football game in November! No trees to quell the wind.

A couple of good passes by Asuma into the post to Mitchell. That's nice to see but I want to see Asuma be a shooter too.
