The bummer in losing him is that he's an in-state kid. There are a lot of his jerseys at gopher games.

but I'm not real worried if he does.

if he left, and they used that money on a good, solid defensive tackle......I'm all in

Isn't his brother coming to The U next year to play baseball? Would think he would want to spend a year on campus with him.
I also wonder if he would have played in the bowl game if he wasn't planning on returning. We will see.

Yep, in the B1G, spending on OL/DL is a necessity while spending on S is a luxury. I’d hate to see Perich go but if those dollars to get sent to the trenches instead, its probably a net positive for the team.

You may be thinking of Asuma on the basketball team with the brother coming to play baseball. Koi’s brother is a WR at Mankato St.

I don't care for the attitude if he's not handing the ball to the refs and going against what's been the norm for this program. That shit's toxic, it reeks of unearned arrogance, and it can spread like poison across the roster if it goes unchecked. I hope the staff isn't turning a blind eye to some or all of that just in the hopes of keeping him around, it's a slap in the face to every other guy on the roster who've worked their asses off to get on the field.

Perich is good, but he hasn't shown he's the next coming of AWJr. There's nothing reasonable to me that indicates the staff needs to sacrifice the culture this program is built on to ensure he stays.

Well said. Not complying with our team standard of handing the football to the ref bothers me far more than it should. It's silly in the grand scheme of things, but I take a lot of pride in our guys treating the officials with respect.

I certainly hope Perich stays but the trenches are where the game is won and I'm far more confident in our ability to identify and develop another Safety than I am finding another high level guy on our OL.

Give Koi's bag of cash to the All American OT from NDSU, call it a day...don't look back.

Hey all, let’s maybe not rip on our potential All-American safety based on HYPOTHETICALLY not coming back. Until he’s no longer a GOPHER, I refuse to feed into this nonsense. I do understand that this is a message board, but clearly these players read what you write.

I know we want to believe that it’s not important or we don’t want guys that care about stuff like this, but IF it may make a difference I will try and avoid that kind of discussion until notified otherwise. My 2 Cents.

I'm okay with Koi knowing that I don't care for his unwillingness to follow team expectations if it stems from him thinking or feeling he's above the standard. It's the Golden Gophers, not the Golden Perichs. I root for every guy on that team who works their asses off and follows the standard, whether they're a starter or get zero snaps over their career. That's the strength of this program over the long term. Talent is nice, but effort is the most important.

If Koi's decision to stay or leave is based on the opinion of some schlub on a message board, he already decided a long time ago he wasn't coming back. It also indicates he lacks resilience, a backbone, and is a primadonna. Those are deficiencies we don't need on our roster.

I remember former Twins' owner the late Calvin Griffith railing against multi-year contracts for players and wanting every player to be on a one-year contract (of course, with no free agency). It's obviously different in baseball, but Calvin's wish has come true for college football and look what's happening. But again, it's the free agency angle that's going to be the death of college football.
 



Perich leaving would be a huge blow in my opinion. I didn't think he was great this year but he's a high-profile in-state athlete who has played a ton since he set foot on campus. He's very talented and it would be a major blow IMO.

Hope he doesn't leave, he's an NFL player for sure and besides a chance to get to the CFP or a huge bag of cash, not sure why you'd leave. But I guess those are two good reasons. Especially if its only for the money.

What is the “standard” you think he puts himself above? Losing Koi would absolutely be a big loss.

Really depends on where he goes. If he were to leave for a helmet school and a big payday the optics wouldn't really be hat bad for the program.

That said, hopefully he is back next year in maroon and gold. The fact that he hasn't indicated anything in either direction might mean the negotiations are ongoing. Guess we will know for sure in a few days.
 

I imagine we will know the day the portal opens (Friday?).

Stay home, Koi. Do not be afraid to be a legend.

The standard is not having a shitty attitude and coming across like you're above your teammates and the expectations put forth by the coach.

Outside of maybe not handing a ball to an official or whatever have there been any actual attitude issues with Koi? I sure haven't seen them if there have been. Feels like some are trying to read a lot into a couple little things.

Exactly I think some are reading way too much into him not handing the ball to the official a couple times.

I also know of no "attitude" issues with Koi.

I think he plays recklessly at times, cost us a few times with bad tackling, but that's not "attitude" at all. I just count that up to being one of those raw athlete guys who plays at 100mph.
