This is what PJ said after the WI game so I assume Quinn is not out of eligibility.

"I think our offensive line, Aireontae goes out on the first series, and Quinn Carroll and I talked about possibly moving him to left tackle if Aireontae decides to declare for the draft which, you know, I'm sure he will. When you're a first rounder, I mean, I think you decide to do that. But we had to talk about it two weeks ago and it's kind of crazy. It came to fruition a little quicker than I wanted it and I thought he did an outstanding job."

According to the official roster this is Quinn's final year of eligibility. Might have been referring to the final game and bowl game assuming that Ersary would choose to opt out (which would seem very likely with the injury and him most likely going pro).

My annual scholarship thread will likely spring up soon too lol, I need to do some reading on the new roster limits though to figure out the best way to format the post.

Yeah, whole new number calculations for you. Mine is much easier to setup and maintain :)

I also think this is a good thing to remember. Roster limits likely mean a lot more movement out. Seems likely 20ish guys transfer out.

Here's the important part left out of what you posted:

That means, the Gophers will need to at least see 15 additional players to those 16 seniors leave this offseason. That also doesn't factor in the Gophers adding anyone from the portal this offseason.

So, yeah, the team probably does need somewhere between 20-25 to transfer. If the past is any indication, Fleck will try to pick up at least a couple of defensive backs and running backs. He'll certainly have to pick up a couple of talented receivers. Maybe an offensive lineman or two and a linebacker. He usually has picked up a defensive lineman although that area is in better shape than most.

According to 247 Craig McDonald is transferring out. Too bad it didn't work out here with him.

Is there a date to be at 105 by? Is it the first day of school?

A lot of recognizable names among the seniors...probably not so easy to replace a lot of these guys.
Plus, if we are going portal shopping we need not just 20 more to leave but more like 30....right?
Some of those tough conversations on the horizon for PJ.

There is a lot of experience and talent--multiple year starters--on the OOE roster. Next year might be a development year unless PJ frees up several more roster spots and has a high ROI on seasoned transfer portal players. Too bad the Gophs underperformed in the UNC and Rutgers games, and made huge turnover mistakes plus got screwed on the onside kick against Michigan. This year's roster had a lot of talent and experience. But, on to the bowl game and 2025.

There's talent on the roster. Countless past examples of players stepping up when the opportunity is presented.

List has been updated with the new departures.

This year really isn't that different than any other year. In college sports you will always lose a bunch of starters and experience to graduation.

For all the negative things about the portal and the current college landscape the one nice thing about it is that if your coaches are good at identifying talent they can quickly fill holes. And overall, Fleck and his staff have done really well in the portal for the most part.

Not this year. 105 is the number. Teams have carried 120+.

Say 25 seniors leave
Enter 25 freshman
You need at least 15 to leave and then…

1 for every transfer you want to bring in.

bangura was always a weird one to me. former 1000 yard guy and had scored 20+TDs but never really got any traction here to try play. Hopefully he finds something a little more lucrative going forward but assume he's going back down to the G5 level.
Hopefully also an indication that Taylor is planning to stick around. Because with Mangham and Majors both out of eligibility he would be in a position to move up the depth chart.

Good point....the 105 roster cap definitely puts a different spin on things. Going to really hurt those walk-on players who probably never had a shot at getting into games but were valuable practice players and guys who just wanted to be part of the team.

edit - I printed out the official roster from Gophersports to set this thread up and it looks like we were carrying 113 last year on the roster.

I had hopes for Schwartz when we first signed him. Sorry it didn't work out...
I recall him being fairly highly regarded, so I looked up his offer list: Miami, Michigan, Penn State, ISU, plus a bunch of others.
