Agree. Looks like Gophs will settle into having the #35 2021 recruiting class on 247.My guess would be probably not but you never know. Maybe there will be a last minute surprise of some kind.

Doesn’t matter really.Losing Dickerson will really hurt the rankings. Plus transfers don't count...
Where has the team finished in previous years? I honestly am curious but too lazy to look into the past 10 years or so.

Encouraging to hear. Hopefully we can develop defensive players as well as offense because last season the defense was hard to watch. It is a step up in the team rankings but the team rankings are garbage. Have used Nebraska as an example but found another one to support the flaw in the team rankings.
#23 class in the country according to 247
Pitt - 23 recruits, (3) 4* - (20) 3* - Avg per recruit 86.62
#35 class in the country according to 247
MN - 18 recruits, (4) 4* - (14) 3* - Avg per recruit 87.18
So in other words, if this class was bigger and the additional recruits fell along the same lines of the guys we already signed then our class ranking would jump quite a bit. Class size factors way too heavily into how the classes are ranked.
2021 class is one of the best ever by Minnesota standards and a continuation of the improvement we have seen in recruiting since Fleck's arrival. Still room for improvement and not where we hope to top out long term, but a very strong class from top to bottom on paper.
Yep, I was going to add that the average ranking seems to be higher but the volume of players signed is lower. Someone pointed out that transfers don't count and we took on more than usual there. If you go off of just average ranking we're 30th and just an average of .01 behind Arkansas for 29th.
Edit: Could all change by tomorrow. Auburn is currently behind us.
Exactly. We're recruiting against a lot of other P5 teams for most of our signees.I would expect it to change some but even if we drop a spot or two in the team rankings it won't change my opinion about the class. Some fans get way too caught up on the number next to the class rank and treat it like it is 100% accurate.
Are the players we are signing guys that other power 5 schools were after? And does it appear on paper like we are bringing in talent that is similar in quality to what our main rivals are bringing in? My answer to both questions in regards to the 2021 class is yes.
Expect all the PWO's to sign and be announced. My guess would be probably not but you never know. Maybe there will be a last minute surprise of some kind.
What is there for PWO's to "sign"? The NLI is in regards to scholarships, I believe.Expect all the PWO's to sign and be announced.
Last I saw I think we were 8th in the Big Ten for average recruit rank.It is a step up in the team rankings but the team rankings are garbage. Have used Nebraska as an example but found another one to support the flaw in the team rankings.

You are correct we are 8th in that metric as well. But again, to put a lot of stock in that number you have to believe that the talent evaluators are 100% right about the kids they are ranking. But we all know that is not the case. There will be busts and there will be guys that were way underrated.
There is so much subjectivity in recruiting. The sites don't even agree on their rankings of individual players. So yeah, it is easy to just look at the metric and say we have the 8th best talent in the conference coming in with this class but there is no way to actually know that right now and it is foolish to be disappointed in the class because of it.
Thanks for level headed and articulate response. Agree it is a crapshoot. Rankings are dumb and used to make money. If you trust your coaching staff then trust their class.
45 in 2019, 38 last year. I think consistently being in the 30-45 range more than meets my expectations now for Gophs to produce 8-10 win regular seasons.Losing Dickerson will really hurt the rankings. Plus transfers don't count...

Other teams have transfers as well.If one were to add in past 247 ranking of the transfers, the class rises to around ~15:
Pinkney .8920 +18.30
Shaw .7903 +1.0
Martin .8475 +1.0
Wright .9678 +25.50
Gibbens -
-------
45.8
I was not expecting that. I figured he was headed to ASUTownley to PSU! Surprise
Still cold, and out in the middle of nowhere, white conservative, central Pennsylvania.Townley to PSU! Surprise
How about Gophs compared to Pitt or Northwestern in 2020?It is a step up in the team rankings but the team rankings are garbage. Have used Nebraska as an example but found another one to support the flaw in the team rankings.
