Nice work by the other band person to jump in front to take on any other players.

Tough to get an idea why the player jumped into the band member, poor timing having the band on the field when the team is running out.
 

It's exceedingly unlikely that he would get 8 years, that's just the maximum for what he is being charged with. He probably would be able to plea bargain to a misdemeanor. You get to knock down players, that's part of the game. But a football uniform isn't a blank check.

Didn't realize the game had started at that point, or that the band member was a player.

Apparently highly tuned athletes aren't nimble enough to dodge a couple band members.

I suppose I could have been a little more clear. When I said you're allowed to knock down players, I meant that you're allowed to knock down players, but not people who aren't players. If I deliberately ran into someone on the street and knocked them down, I just might get charged with a crime.
 

This piece of garbage should have been immediately dismissed from the team/schollie, as well as having charges filed against him. Hey, why not steamroll a couple fans, a ref & a trainer for good measure?
