Nolan Groves

I was a close personal friend of Sid Hartman.
Me and about 1 million other Minnesota Sports fans.
I said hello to Sid in about 5 different in person chance meetings...never once did he respond. Just ignored me and moved on. After the first time, I kind of silently hoped he wouldn't change. He didn't.
Pretty rare when someone doesn't nod, say hi back, salute, wave or something.

From my knowledge of the family, they seem to want what they deem as greener pastures. Don’t get your hopes up that he’s a gopher unless we pay significantly more than another team. I don’t think we are sexy enough in their eye. Pure speculation but just my sense.

Mustard on his jacket/tie?

I got a picture with Sid on the field at the Bank, right after a Gopher Spring Game.

Must be you...lol.

All I did was walk up behind him and yell his name?

Sounds like the typical Minnesota recruits that the U has had to deal with over the last several years. Minnesota isn't "big enough" for them.

TT may have just upped the NIL offer with Federiko now leaving. They are lacking size.

I almost had Sid arrested once for trying to steal beer at an event. He said "don't you know who I am" which didn't help his cause.

He also almost rear ended me with his car downtown.

I'm curious what type of money you think TT will throw at him? First, personally I'm high on the kid and think he has the "potential" to be a really good player. However, now to the facts of how he might be viewed from a national recruiting perspective. This is a kid who played AAU and was on the circuit, which means he was being seen and was in front of college recruiters and talent evaluators, yet here we sit in mid-April after the season is over and he has no rating on any of the recruiting services (247, Rivals and On3) and I could even find him in the On3 database.

This has resulted in three current offers - Minn, TT & Wisky (not counting Yale as he walked away from that). I mention all that to say, why do we think TT is going to throw any significant money at him? Is the response because his AAU trainer is at TT. That's right, there are a lot of P4 schools that write big checks based on the scouting insights from one of their trainers. I would bet more that they are hoping they could possibly steal a recruit for their bench and get by on the cheap because he hasn't had that much interest. The kids with three total P4 offers aren't getting big checks, unless of course you're a proven portal player.

No question it's me. Sid had a lot of friends.

In general, how much money should anyone throw at a relatively unproven player (which is the vast majority of incoming freshmen)?

Maybe Niko employs female escorts on recruiting visits?
In all seriousness...unless they are all about going away to school, I don't think the money will be significantly different....but the opportunities are greater at Minnesota. Maybe Asuma convinces him?
