You disagree with the requirements?

So you're saying if we win lots of games including a few against good/ranked teams and all against non ranked teams that we will be ranked? Thanks.[/QUOTE/]
Doesn't seem obvious to you or a few others that it will require that so I thought I'd share it with you. 8 and 0 and we are ranked. 5 and 0 and we are probably ranked. 7 and 1 maybe we are ranked. 6 and 2 and I don't think so. None of those scenarios to be ranked are easy. But, you seem to have TCU in the win column already so I can only imagine there is no scenario in your world we are not 4 and 0 to begin the season. I expect us to be 4 and 0, but I disagree that any of those will be easy games for us. I'm hoping they all are and think Middle Tennessee might be.

The point I was trying to make is that until we do that we are a long way from deserving to be ranked in my opinion.

I seriously think some posters on here are just doing a parody of a gopher fan to make us look bad. We should be 10 point underdogs to TCU and I'll be happy if we can keep it close and maybe get a lucky bounce or two to win the game. I know they had a rough season last year, but aren't they only like 2 or 3 years from being in the Rose Bowl? I don't see our offense scoring more than 13 points in this game.

Given where the football program is relative to the rest of the B1G, just win football games and worry about the rankings when the season is done.

None of us here think we are in the hunt for the playoff (if wee become pleasantly surprised by the end of November, great!), and the only reason you would care about ranking right now is that will be the main barometer for the selection committee to choose who should be in said playoff. The AP poll doesn't factor into who ends up where, but everyone needs to start somewhere and fat chance that those on the committee are able to watch every game and make an objective selection.

Other then that, the rankings just don't matter

Using the final 2013 Sagarin Pure Points (Predictor) rating (which will obviously change between now and the actual game), Minnesota would currently be a 6.5-pt underdog at TCU. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/sagarin/

Agree 100%. Some fans are definitely underrating TCU by just looking at their record from last year.

Worth noting that Duke and Vandy both finished last year ranked. I'm guessing nearly every voter starts there when doing this first poll. UNC and ULL, while having great seasons, won their bowl games. There's something about winning your bowl game that makes people think you'll be great the next year.
I agree with this and believe it is what preseason rankings are based upon. I also agree with the who cares group.

Not a shock. It'll take a win vs. TCU for that to happen. It will happen this year too.
