I would think so but he only said higher. Minnesota is the State of Hockey but to me that doesn't mean it is more popular than a certain sport it just means that is where the culture of hockey and popularity is the greatest in America. Hockey in Minnesota just has a storied history and I think the State of Hockey means more about the history of hockey here and how big it is in youth, high school, and college hockey compared to other states and not necessarily that it has to be the most popular sport in the state.

Just because we're the state of hockey doesn't mean it's the most popular sport in the state. Just that it's relatively more popular here than anywhere else.

If we were to interpret it in such a way that it must mean that hockey is the most popular sport every state would be the "State of Football".

Exactly. Just like Wisconsin being the State of Zoonecrophilia doesn't necessarily mean that everyone there partakes in that diversion, just that it's vastly more popular there than it is anywhere else.

what was the wild game? I'd be interested in seeing how that compared to the Heat/Bobcats game where Minnesota had no interest in either team

Edit: I got you. You were comparing MN 7.6 vs. the heat game 13

Was Wild on local channels? I'm not in MN anymore so I don't know but the other 2 games were nationally televised on non cable channels.

Misleading tweet. The Heat game did not get a 13 rating. It may have gotten a 13 share, but not a 13 rating. The NBA Finals don't even get 13 ratings anymore. I'm guessing the rating, whatever it was, was lower than the Wild game, even with it being on ABC vs. FSN.

The 7.6 number is only the Minnesota market and that is only on FSN because I believe NBCSports was blacked out in the Minnesota market for the Wild game.

Yes they block the wild on the nbc networks have to watch on FSN

I was thinking tonight might actually be less just because you will have about 18,000 at the X tonight watching live instead of on TV.

And the MLS averages more attendance than the NHL.

18,000 doesn't make up a state. By that logic, we are the state of football.
 

When you win, the people will come, just look at the lynx, they are far and away one of the best in the wnba in attendance, or look back to the women's basketball team final 4 run and how excited Minnesota was for that and now look at how things are now. I hardly ever watch hockey or soccer, but if the Minnesota or USA is involved in a meaningful game I will watch. The fact remains the same, that all things equal, hockey still remains behind basketball in this market.
 


Am a Gopher basketball guy first and foremost, but this Wild-Avalanche series has been off the charts drama, and a heck of a lot more interesting & entertaining than the Gophers' NIT run, the Twins, etc.
Still put the Wild-Avalanche series slightly behind this year's drama in the NCAA tourney, though!:drink:

I know its obvious, but I'm a hockey guy before hoops. However, I'm a Gopher guy before I'm a hockey guy, so I think I'd be willing to swap a Wild playoff run to see a deep March Madness run by the Gophs.

Lol you're inferiority complex is hilarious. Of course more people like hoops than hockey, but in Minnesota more people like hockey here than anywhere else in the country, it's the only place where it's even a debate. There's a reason people refer to us as Hockey U

That is a big #. A regular season Vikings game would still double it, as would a Twins play-off game, but it's huge for the NHL.
