I had the pleasure or interviewing my friend, and someone I really look up to, Niko Medved, the Head Coach at Furman. I had the pleasure of meeting Niko when he started out with Monson, and have watched him work hard and climb the ladder the past few years. He gave a great interview yesterday...enjoy:

Furman University’s Head Basketball Coach, Niko Medved, fell in love with the game of basketball at The Barn. His Father has had season tickets for over 40 years, and Medved has been a fan, a manager, an assistant to the Head Coach, and an Assistant Coach for the University of Minnesota. After many years, he’s coming back to The Barn, but will be coaching against his hometown team. Medved is an example of how hard work, determination, constantly learning, finding excellent mentors, and having a very positive attitude can result in becoming a Head Coach at a Division 1 school. He talks about how having mentors like Dan Monson, Jim Molinari, Tim Miles and Larry Eustachy have shaped his career, and where he wants to take this Furman program.

Awesome interview. I hope he succeeds there. It's fun to hear about all of the successful athletes and coaches that have come out of Gophers Basketball

The interview was excellent and I love his story. I hope he gets a great reception tonight!

Let's make sure we give him a standing ovulation!!!

Thank you all. I know these kind of pieces don't get the attention of a 15 year old recruit...but I love his story. And honestly, people don't get better than him. He's never changed, from when he was the assistant to the HC (what do those jobs make, like 20K) to being a Head Coach now. That's rare that people stay that genuine. And he truly loves what he does.
