Medved is replacing Ben Johnson, who was fired after four seasons and a 22-57 Big Ten record. The Gophers went 15-17 last year, 7-13 in Big Ten play and saw attendance dwindle at Williams Arena. With Medved’s hire, there’s been a jolt of new energy.

"I think people really care about Gopher basketball, they want it to be great. I think the time is now, it’s a perfect time to reignite it for us," Medved said. "People are waiting for something to get behind, and it’s our job to build that.

Go Gophers!!

Yes, we care. I have cared since my dad took me to see Mel Northway and Terry Kunze play. Then Sweet Lou, Archie Clark, Don Yeats and forever hooked. And forever love Williams Arena, The Barn!!!
Indeed! It started for me as a second grader & Jim Brewer’s sophomore season—the forgettable year of Bob Hanson—against Marquette—great fun watching the animated Al McGuire in a half-empty arena split about 50-50 in fan support. Two years later it was the battle of heavyweights with 20,000 in the Barn between the arena and closed circuit on the hockey side. Musselman ignited my Gopher basketball spark which has carried me through more than 600 games at Williams Arena.
