Nick Saban $500K/Yr as "Professional" at Alabama

Reminds me of Bud Grant for the Vikings. They paid him an annual consulting salary after he retired.

Detroit Lions wanted Grant to coach for them. The Vikings kept him happy and retired in Minnesota.

I'm surprised they didn't make him Governor the day after he stepped down. He's the most powerful man in that state.

Well deserved and worth it IMO
To me, it's the timing of it. I'd be a little upset if the legend I was replacing was still around. At least at WI, the people after Alvarez were his assistants, right? So that probably made it easier.

$500k is a good insurance plan against Saban getting restless in retirement and consulting or coaching at another SEC school.
