Anyone notice how many bad calls are being made in NFL games? It seems to be worse this year.

Last weeks, Philadelphia/Buffalo game was really bad, and the Philadelphia/SF game yesterday was bad. How do they eject the Head of Security for Philadelphia? FYI, I have no dog in the fight.

They already have the "eye in the sky" buzzing them for expedited reviews on some plays. They should just let it be for anything, including missed pass interference/facemasks etc. It's beyond dumb to have 20 million people at home clearly see something is a foul and just ignore it and play on.

Question, is anyone not gonna tune in due to terrible officiating?

I agree it’s bad, but what’s the nfl’s incentive to care or try to fix it. If anything it’s gonna get worse as they continue to add more rules that require subjective interpretation vs objective facts, think roughing the passer because you put too much weight on them.

Until the casinos and betting agencies care there is no incentive to fix it. The nfl has the greatest product ever as almost every game comes down to the final possession no matter the record.

They have to protect the QBs. They play the most exciting position in all of sports and the superstars are must-see and every team’s starter is capable of electric play or colossal mistakes.

The single best rule change in the last 25 years was adding the two point conversion. It preserves the value of a touchdown + extra point, because it’s still worth more than 2 FGs. But it pulls games closer together with a *chance* that doesn’t exist without it.

I have a buddy who's in his second year as an NFL official. He was a Power 5 collegiate official for many years, worked his way up. It's fascinating listening to his stories, the amount of pre and post game video work they do, etc.

Such a different career path than the traditional job, fun stories for sure.

Go Gophers!!

I think I mentioned this earlier too, a buddy/client of mine just made it to the NFL this year as a Line Judge; spent the last number of years as a PAC-12 LJ, did the CFP National Championship game 2 years ago I think. I haven't talked to him since the beginning of the season, we're not super close; I just get an email every 3-4 weeks telling me what games he's doing in the next month.

I don't think the officiating is bad, but damn there have been some horrendous instances this season without a doubt. Have to believe it's an anomaly but who knows?

In a way, NFL officiating is in the place where major league baseball used to be. in MLB, every ump used to have their own strike zone. then some of the electronic systems came in for ump evaluation and now there is a lot less variation between umpires.

with the NFL, it seems as if every NFL crew has its own interpretations for what is or is not a penalty. if one crew is working a game, there might be 8 or 9 penalties. if another crew, like Hockuli Junior's crew is working the game, there might be over 20 penalties.

somehow the NFL has to find a way to standardize the officiating so that you don't get the huge swings from game to game.

They get criticized by thousands of fans for not throwing a flag. They get criticized by thousands of fans for throwing too many flags. Most of us only have one (1) wife.

The KC receiver was mugged on one of the last plays last night. No call.
Sort of an offset for GB getting a late hit/personal foul call for hitting Mahomes while he was still in bounds, near the 1st Down stick a few plays earlier.
