NFL Draft Thread: Gophers predictions, articles, analysis mock draft, tweets, etc.

Amazing. Four guys drafted, when is the last time that happened?

2006

Laurence Maroney 1st RD
Anthony Montgomery 5th RD
Greg Eslinger 6th RD
Mark Setterstrom 7th RD

I do believe the days of being last in the Big 10 for players drafted are over!!!

I'm upset that none of them landed with the Vikes..........

Congratulations to some very good players today! All three, a little underrated. Some of the backs taken before Cobb were curious picks. Cobb will get those hard yards the other backs can't. I won't be surprised to see him have a nice career with Tennessee.

Wilson was criminally underrated as a possible FA. Thompson similarly dismissed by some scouts, but was able to get some folks to look at his tape with a strong pro day.

Jerry and Claeyes will have more scouts sniffing around in the future. They build men as well as NFL caliber players. We have something going here with this group of coaches.

I was really hoping that Thompson would end up with the Vikings. Congrats to Cedric regardless! Wow, 4 Gophers drafted, that's nice to see.

Is it right we the only B1G college with 4 players drafted at this stage?

With character issues under the microscope, the pros will be looking long at hard at the Gophers crops of developing players closely if they haven't already.

Vikings' Spielman was really impressed with the Gophers football program. It is too bad they did not draft a hometown player. That may change.

Probably. Ohio St, Michigan, and Michigan St. each have 3. Wisconsin and Iowa 2.

Just checked, as it stands (through five rounds) we have most drafted from the B1G and only Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Stanford have more than us.

I know it may change by the end of the day but, even so, this must be massive for recruiting?

What is highest number of gophers drafted in a single draft?

NE just drafted a long snapper from Navy, won't they have to wait at least two years before he sees the field?

What is highest number of gophers drafted in a single draft?

13 in 1950. But they had at least 30 rounds that year. Both 1988 and 1990 had 5 but that was with 12 rounds.

Since they reduced it to 7 rounds, the highest is 4: 2001, 2006, and this year.

In this year's draft, they have 256 draft slots.

We can say then, that the Gophers have four top 256 players!. They may not all start out as four or five stars, but they end up there.

This will make watching the NFL more interesting in the future for me!

Nearly every article I've seen this far laments cobb only ran a 4.81. I'm surprised the NFL held that as an official time after he obviously let up. Lesson is, fall down if you get hurt at the combine.

Most of the fans seem happy with the pick. Others look at the 4.81 fake 40 time. The SBnation writer makes Dienhart look good.

I think AP is definitely gone after this year. McKinnon is not an everydown back.

There's just no reason one team should have so many trades every year. That's ego.

It's ego that he wants to have at least 10 picks in the draft this year? If AP is here this year (which it seems like he will be) then we don't need a running back this year.

Nice blog eval on Wilson:

There was also a lot of negative fan reaction over this pick - much like happened after last year's fourth-round selection.

Looking at the numbers on him, both from his production and the combine, you might start to wonder why you haven't heard more about him. Then when you see he was a stealth visitor to Valley Ranch, you almost get the impression the team was trying to keep their interest in him under wraps.

And if you were paying attention a little over a month ago, our own One Cool Customer had already found out about Wilson. In his article on finding impact linebackers for the Cowboys, Wilson's SPARQ scores and production point to him being better than Shaq Thompson in both categories, and probably equal to or maybe a bit better than Benardrick McKinney overall. They were both players that many fans here were interested in Dallas taking much earlier. This looks more and more like the Cowboys doing their homework and using some analytics to find a player that many in the league overlooked.

Sort of like they did with that fourth-round pick in 2014.

Bills take TE Nick O'Leary. Hopefully that doesn't mean Gray is in trouble.

Anyone else with a chance to go before it's all said and done?

It's unlikely they will get drafted, but Botticelli and Epping are still on the board
