Does anyone know if we have any redshirts or anyone who can come in and play?

Safety is ok.......other than that we suck all across the board.

Do we have anything in the cupboard coming up? Can Howie Johnson come in and play off the bat.

Again, we have nothing as far as I can see.

Howie is projecting at DT and will need to bulk up. Likely won’t play.

We aren’t gonna lose anything of note and all of the kids coming back will be one year older and should be a little bit better. You gotta think we are gonna be a prime destination for portal cornerbacks playing time all over the field for us.
Anthony Smith isn’t anything of note? Wtf?

He has a year of eligibility left wasn’t thinking about him. Only the kids who are 100% in their last year. His draft stock took a hit today.
You're right. Definitely played his way out of the draft because of a bad regular season game. Definitely the way nfl scouts think. Definitely.

He couldn’t have played any worse today. He’d probably say the same thing. He also wouldn’t be the first person who came back to play his last year of eligibility when they could’ve entered the draft.

Portal is going to be interesting to watch. My guess is that we will go hard after defensive help from the portal.

We have a lot of younger players that will continue to improve but won't surprise me to see a bunch of new faces as well.

As for Smith, my guess is he goes pro after this year but maybe he decides he would benefit from another year in college. Never know.

He’s a 5th round pick or so.

If Collins is still the DC, will not matter who the players are. He doesn't inspire any confidence he can fix the implosion that is happening. He seems to be calling the same defense Robb Smith tried, same style of play and calls. Scared of his own shadow.
Need a more experienced linebackers coach too.

It won’t matter if we have the same incompetent defensive coordinator!
I think this is the problem. This defense is not lacking in individual talent. But it seems undisciplined. And its play isn’t cohesive. Some players seem easily confused. And tackling fundamentals are sorely lacking. It is also surprisingly non-opportunistic. I can hardly remember it forcing a turnover in the second half of the season.

Key word should be... it all falls on who our DC is going to be.

I'm looking at Lou Esposito, the defensive line coach at Michigan. Who was a former bronco at Western after PJ became the head coach here. Start with the guys up front will bring up the rest of the defensive unit. Michigan's top ten rushing defense starts with the big bodies.

Are there any up and comers who can play?

We lack talent all across the board defensively.

I would put odds at 60% that Rossi is our DC next year and Collins is bumped back to an assistant coach.

PJ put himself in a real bad spot by promoting a protege who was so far from ready. But Rossi would provide a proven path to an effective defense while protecting Collins’ resume to a good extent. And presumably Rossi would be ok with having Collins as an assistant again.

Why would he come back?
