If the Tubby to Arkansas threads can be believed it's time to start a thread speculating on the next hire.

Who's on the wish list and who's on the realistic list?

I'll wait until Tubby and Arkansas is actually official. I'm not going to waste my time speculating on who will fill a spot that isn't even vacant.

Buzz Williams please. I am also cool with Flip or Tim Miles.

I know he has those that question how his coaching/recruiting will translate to the college game, but I think Flip would be a phenomenal hire if he's interested; probably the best we could make.

These threads are seriously depressing me.

Flip would be an awesome hire though.

Flip Saunders - yes, Trent Tucker - no as he has no formal coaching experience whatsoever. Maybe Flip could bring in McHale to work with the Big men? (just kidding)

And TT to coach the shooters.

Flip would be an outstanding hire, better than Tubby's was. Doubt he will leave the league though.

Can Flip recruit? I mean, I know he's been an NBA coach for many years and that is a really good selling point, but do we have any idea how he'd do getting top talent to come here?

Hi im flip saunders. I coached kevin garnett, john wall, and countless other great players. Did i mention i know NBA scouts and coaches and can personally vouch for you? Come to Minnesota. Trent tucker is my assistant coach. It rolls off the tongue don't it?

Yeah I think Flip could be a great recruiter, especially in Minnesota. If I knew we could get Flip, I wouldn't mind seeing Tubby go to be honest.

I would definitely be on board with Tucker coming in as an assistant coach, but not as the head coach.

Flip and Tim Miles are two pretty good candidates to me. I also like the idea of having Trent Tucker assisting on shooting...

the next gopher coach

Tubby Smith. Tubby has put together a VERY promising group of kids for next year--the best he's had since coming to MN. The problem this year wasn't the coach, it was the talent. Contrary to the opinion of some, this was NOT an underachieving team this year.

Do you think we could talk David Kahn into becoming our AD once Maturi gets fired?

I don't think Tubby is leaving but if he did the guys I would be interested in considering would be
in no particular order

Cuonzo Martin
Kevin Stallings
Brian Gregory
Anthony Grant

I guess I'm going to respectfully disagree with that statement. Andre Hollins looks very good and Coleman looks decent. Beyond that Minnesota has two non rated prospects (Otto and Welch) and a 3 star prospect from Neb who was so skinny he needed to redshirt. Also, isn't the team's lack of talent at least partially Tubby's fault, if not fully. I would argue that its the third most promising class ahead of only last season.

I've said it before, if the jobs open, I hope they take a hard look at Ben Coleman from UNI.

I do recall you saying that before. Because I remember mocking you for getting his last name wrong.

goldenfuture5

I was just going to suggest the same name, he was an extremely hot commodity after their tournament run a few years ago and he signed an extension turning down a big name school (can't remember which school it was) but supposedly has an out i his contract if the gopher job ever opens up. Not sure how people would feel about him now.

Not and "underachieving" team? They looked totally out of sorts the last few weeks. They wouldn't even win those rebounding battles they used to dominate. I think the coach has to take some responsibility for the tank job of his players. However, I do agree that a few gaurds added to this nucleus can win again, but they certainly need better motivation not to underachieve - again.
