News on Andy Enfield

It's safe to say that Andy out-kicked his coverage in this case.

There are more hot girls in the world than multimillionaires who get into coaching basketball and lead a team to the Sweet 16. She's hot, no doubt, but Andy Enfield would have an easier time replacing her than her him.

His house has been on the market since 2011. He had a sense this was all going to come together!

For what it's worth my folks winter in Naples, and they've been following FGCU for the last 7-8 years, and usually go to 2-3 games a year. My father said the program was a dumpster fire under the previous coach, and then Enfield stepped in a couple years ago and completely changed the "losing/who cares?" culture. The "old folks" in Naples noticed the change in the program right away when he was hired. Dad was talking this guy up last year, well before the Sweet 16 hub-bub. Enfield sounds like a go-getter who would like bigger fish to fry.

Not expecting anyone to get fired up about Enfield, but he intrigues me if for no other reason than I trust my father's instincts with regards to coaches. Though Dad's a MSU guy, like me he's been a Tubby supporter, but he also thought Tubby in the latter stages appeared a little disengaged. I'll be on board with whoever Teague hires, Enfield included, but his wife sitting in the stands wouldn't hurt, either!

I dont know anything about the team or Enfield - what kind of talent has he recruited (other than the obvious run in this tourney)? Has he always played a wide open style? Any info on the academic side?

The guy can coach and has a resume that includes the NBA. People need to realize that he has been coaching for 20 years and specializes in shooting.

If we get Buzz Williams, Gregg Marshall, or Andy Enfield, Teague has hit a homerun.

He's only been a head coach for two seasons. This year they were 13-5 in conference. Previous to that he was a five or so year assistant at Florida State. Very risky hire.

You are comparing Buzz and Marshall to Enfield? There are a lot of coaches who have been coaching for 20 years, with a lot of them being in the NBA. Let's go get Randy Whitman then. Good lord, Enfield is a homerun?

Valid questions, BB. Looks like he was a NBA assistant for awhile before he got rich, and then joined Leonard Hamilton at Florida State. I'd lean toward wanting someone with ties to the Big Ten/Midwest (Miles, Bennett, current/former Big Ten assistant, or I'm even coming around to Flip a little bit. ... there could be worse Plan C or Ds), but there are a lot of good coaches out there.

Teague's first significant hire as a big-time AD. ... we all hope he hits the jackpot.

I really think people's judgement on Enfield is skewed by the photos of his wife. I'll be the first to admit that he's over-achieved in 3 key areas...Business, Women and Hoops...This would easily be the riskiest play Teague could make. Biggest downside for sure. Potential upside and cheap. I would rather hire Grant if he can bring 1 or 2 of his recruits.

I see Enfield as someone who should get consideration. That's where evaluation would factor in. It's not just about a couple wins in the NCAA Tourney. It's about that same "body of work" that we fired our last coach on the basis of. Would he be a candidate had they lost that first Tournament game? To me, this would be the fun part about hiring a new guy: doing the research, evaluation, interview, etc. With thorough investigation you take a risky hire and make it a lot less risky because you know exactly what you're getting.

Bottom line, this guy seems to have a lot going for him and he shouldn't be dismissed as merely a flash in the pan.

Enfield has won 59% of his games,Tubby only 69%

Scout, respectfully, am not here to endorse Enfield, however, I don't think it's as simple as that. To get a better picture of what Enfield has accomplished at FGCU (yes, I know it's not the Big Ten), I would offer these numbers:

FGCU 4 Previous Seasons to Enfield
2007-08: 10-21, 6-10
2008-09: 10-20, 7-13
2009-10: 8-21, 5-15
2010-11: 10-20, 7-13
Totals: 38-82 (31.7%), 25-51 (32.9%)

Enfield's 2 Seasons
2011-12: 14-17, 8-10 (Atlantic Sun title game appearance in 1st season)
2012-13: 22-10, 13-5 (auto bid & Sweet 16)
Totals: 36-27 (57.1%), 21-15 (58.3%)

Not saying Enfield is a better coach than Tubby. He has a long way to go to prove that. But there's no arguing the on-court trajectory at FGCU.

Sidebar: I expect Billy D's boys to put a beatdown on FGCU tonight.

Really do not think he or his wife will move their from tropical Florida to the frozen north to attempt to turn the BB team from solid into high end. Extremely difficult task, he does not need the $$, and if he is such a great coach he will eventually fill a more desirable HC job

This is a dude who could maintain two homes for pete's sake.

Enfield is discussed because he gets to the sweet 16 henceforth because of his most recent win. His body of work certainly merits a keep an eye on him ...but a top dollar, long term contract , high major HC job with very high expectations is quite a leap of faith.

That would indeed be quite a difficult task...especially since we aren't "solid".

Well Ind,Wisc, Mich st and the RPI and UCLA and NCAA selection committee think we are solid but Brucey does not think so therefore we are not
