Since many believe the Gophers are safe no matter what, the Purdue game is meaningless...So, why not try something radical to see what we have?

Mbakwe
Ingram
Halvorson
Dre
Ellenson

Against PSU, Halverson displayed the best move in the paint anybody on the Gophers has shown this season. Let's give him some run. Ellenson deserves some run...he's agressive and goes to the basket.

Keep Rodney, Austin and Coleman on the pine as much as possible and sink or swim with 7 players (Ahanmisi and EE off the bench)

Since we're in no matter what, who cares about another meaningless loss?

The players that have worked hard and made plays for you recently:

Mav
Dre
Trevor
Ingram
EE

Not enough shooters in that lineup, so you'd have to start Welch and platoon Ingram and the goose. Three guard lineup.

Reward performance.

Ellenson hasn't done squat this year and you want to start him? I'd go back to the rotation we used vs IU, play that starting five and bring Ingram EE and Mav off the bench

Welch
Dre
Austin (he's still our best defender)
Trevor
Elliot

Maybe coming off the bench will motivate Rodney a bit.

Sorry, but that lineup will not get you to the promised land. You are fired.

That's pretty good. I like it.

Here is a great idea play the 5 best players for 30+ minutes a game until the end of the season.

I will probably get bashed by some for it but I say go back to the way you started the Indiana game.
Dre
Coleman
Austin
Rodney

Why would you get bashed for posting the starting lineup for most of the season?

Can't watch Rodney and Austin trade off throwing up bricks at the hoop and then sulk. We need guys who can score and give 100% effort.

Because there seem to be a lot of peole around here who think you have to make a change when someone is not playing well to the starting lineup or they want to make a change just for the sake of making a change. I really think it is important to have the established roles and consistency with the lineup. A lot of people don't want to believe that when this team has struggled a huge part of it has been due to the mental side of the game but I really believe it has and I think things like making huge lineup changes really hurt the some of the players mentality, Dre may have been the perfect example last game as he just didn't seem to play with the same type of confidence and swagger.

This may give you a chance to win IF Austin and Rodney start to perform like they have earlier this year. One of the problems with Rodney is that besides being a poor shooter, he is also a poor passer. He needs to play an up tempo game. That being said, I believe that you have to play EE because he is the passer on the team. He looks inside quickly and the ball moves when he touches it. You go with your best 2 players, Andre and Trevor, the big guy in the middle, and then some shooters. I'd give minutes to Welch and Maverick, if he looks to shoot the 3 when he has it. Austin needs to start shooting better to give us another threat to score.

Agree. There is no reason to start Williams or Coleman. Unless they really light it up when they get in, they should see limited minutes. Austin starts by default- he is the best of the worst and can play defense. EE needs to start to play against Hammons. He just needs to play off him so he does not get beat to the bucket.

I love how our players reward for beating Indiana was to lose their spot in the starting lineup. I'm sure this masterful bit of string pulling did wonders for their psyche. Sadly I don't think it matters what we do for Purdue, the Nebraska game seemed to say the damage has already been done.

The thing is the Gophers still are playing for seeding both in the Big Ten Tournament and in the NCAA's. Playing guys who have hardly seen the floor all year probably isn't the best idea. I know Coleman, Rodney, and Austin have hit a slump, but we need them down the stretch this year and can't have them sitting on the bench while Halverson plays.

All I know is this. Three years ago Smith made a lineup change going into the Big Ten Tournament, and that was a key to the Gophers advancing to the tournament final and getting into the NCAA's. You do what you have to do this time of year. Sitting on safe past practice often doesn't get it done.

(The lineup change was to play both Sampson and Iverson on the floor at the same time. It sprung the high-low game in a way it hadn't been executed the entire year, and it was a change-up from what the opposition had prepared for.)

The game is not meaningless. Momentum or lack there of is huge in the postseason.

I'm sure Halverson is a great kid and he works hard in practice, but I don't think you can base a decision on one play in mop up duty.

One item which always warrants line up changes is effort. A lack of effort is a disease that will spread and is hard to irradiate. Outstanding effort works the same and should be rewarded as it sets the bar higher.

I still can't believe Tubby went away from what was so wildly successful against #1 Indiana in favor of a line-up that beat a historically bad Penn State.

Maybe Ellenson can get a couple more 3 pointers blocked from behind him if he starts.

The need to get Austin and Rodney going is all-important imo. Without those two, we have zero chance to do anything in the post-season. Benching them is not the answer. Getting them as many minutes is what I'd do. If you feel the need to sit someone, sit Joe.

Interesting comment about Wally - he scores every time he is in even if its 2 minutes - William and Coleman have played WHOLE games without points.

I think this has to be it. We need Austin to work through his funk and find his shot.

Based on hundreds of failed plays by Rodney and others like Austin or Joe Coleman, I think Tubby should give Halverson a shot...The other guys are 0 for for their last 30.

I'm not usually the "you must be related" guy when someone sticks up for someone else. But looking at your past comments, are your related to Wally? I hope he enjoys MN, and produces for us in bball.

No relationship - just feel he isn't getting a fair shake - have followed his career in high school and know what he is capable about and hate when people randomly slam young players when they don't even know them.

I don't understand why Tubby moved on from the Indiana rotation. Same starting lineup, only Mav and Eliason getting significant minutes off of the bench, with a few mins of Ingram sprinked in. Some of you are right, we need Rodney and Austin. Play them more, not less.

It's a familiar cycle. The fans gush over a new recruit and project them to start and score 15 PPG right away, then underrate them when they're adjusting to the next level and not getting enough playing time to improve their game. I wish people could stay on more of an even keel about this stuff.

He tends to shoot more than he should, in a tight game that could kill you and his defense is suspect, I like him, I think he could start next year or split minutes equally with Coleman, not there yet though, when they get in a period of no offense as they have been prone to do all B1G season I don't understand why Tubby doesn't send him in to try and jump start the offense and get some energy.

I'm not truly advocating Halverson playing at all...but, with our lack of inside presence for next year (Walker, Eliason, Buggs? Foster? Osenieks (too lazy to look up spelling)?), is there a chance he can see any minutes? Or is he just along for the ride...and if so, God bless him, as he really seems to be enjoying himself as part of this program.
