Haven't seen announcement yet, but 247's transfer portal tracker shows that Mariere Omonode, a 6'0" 286 lbs DL has transferred from Purdue to the Gophers. We've got a lot of length at interior line. Maybe Omonode--if he has actually transferred--might bring some quickness and a different kind of leverage to the interior DL. I'm thinking of DL Richardson back in the Kill years.

We need bodies to eat doubles and free up space for guys like Howard and Smith. Listed at 6'0 and 286, probably more like 5'10-5'11 and 280ish.

the next Dyron Russ or more recently Steve Richardson?.

I'll never forget the year after Russ graduated, it was the fifth game of the 2000 season, just after we beat tOSU. We were 3-1 in the B1G (we lost to Purdue, who had some clown named Drew Brees at QB - I went down to that game to see him play one more time ugh). We're playing Indiana. Russ had been a huge part of the defense, plugging the middle. Indiana decided to attack the middle. They let everyone know the once no-go territory of the middle of the Gopher D-line no longer contained a small, squat fire plug of a player, who swallowed blocks and space and was unfortunately wide open. We managed to salvage a season that fell apart that day, with a victory over Iowa to end the regular season, but it took a while before we had an impact player in the middle like Russ - and that was Richardson. Loved both of their style and effort.

My immediate thought was of Richardson. Undersized but quick, often requiring a double team. Could help the DEs.

Purdue sure seems to have a lot of guys transferring to P4 schools considering how bad they were. Not a great endorsement for their former coach I guess.
