Per Greder:

“I think this has the opportunity to be one of the most versatile defenses that we have had here,” Collins said after Tuesday’s practice. “Guys flying around different fronts, guys all over the place, different types of packages. … I think the versatility will be huge for us this season.”

Go Gophers!!

Off-season descriptions of the defense are always the same. "Less thinking more responding", "Junkyard dog mentality", "Guys flying around", etc.

I have heard the “we’re going to rely on versatility” or the “we’re going to do things differently” when it comes to defenses that lack an identity or a core of solid players.

Thankfully I believe this defense has both of those things. Some scrutiny is still appropriate as a first year DC but I think the players and culture will make a serviceable DC at the least. Can’t wait to see what he produces!

One day I’d like to see a DC say that they want a defense that is well-mannered.

You apparently have never heard Venables speak. I have, 3 times. Havoc is the way he describes his defensive philosophy.

So because someone used the same term that our DC just used, our defenses will perform the same?

I don't give a rats ass how many times you have heard him speak, that's a ridiculous conclusion to draw.

Hope they don’t run hot and cold.

I’m all for it as long as they are sound in execution and it doesn’t result in giving up explosive plays.
All the coach speak is starting to grate on me. Mark Coil needs to step in soon, otherwise the fans will be venting their frustrations.

Hetherman made a hair on fire type comment last year before the season started and I had the same sentiment. The defense ended up being really good from an opportunistic senseso I hope this season is a repeat

Venables is one of the most successful defensive coordinators in the last two decades.

'HAVOC'

H - Hardly any pressure
A - Always play conservative
V - Very safe play calls
OC - Of Course we're not sending an extra man

So says who has never played or coached football. Was that your mother call?
