New Commit Coming By Thursday

So the player was supposed to announce at his team's scrimmage today but his coach isn't going to play him because he wants to rest him. The result of this is that he is now going to announce next Thursday. It really is amazing how often these announcement dates change. I'm all for kids having fun with it and everything but making it this much of a spectacle is a little too much for me. Anyway, I apologize for getting everyone so excited and then letting the air out of your tires. On the bright side... OSELAND!!!!

Looks like JJ from Fargo was wearing an "M" on his helmet today. Doogie also reported that we are still hot after Carlberg as OL or DL, whichever he wants. Which makes sense since we really dont need him at OT anymore.

I'll trust Burns over Doogie any day of the week and he says that the staff isn't willing to take Carlberg as a DL. Maybe that's changed with the Oseland commit but until I hear otherwise from Burns I'll believe it's OL or bust.

But why wouldnt we take him at DL? We dont NEED him at OL, and he could develop on the DL and has the body for it. Not to mention we could use the depth on the DL.

That's not my decision to make. The coaches believe his upside is much higher as an OL. Maybe he's not actually a very good DL and all the other schools fully intend to switch him to OL in the end. I have no idea, I've never seen the kid play. All I can say is that I trust Burns way more than Doogie. Someone on GI asked Burns about the Doogie tweet so we'll see what he says.

Adrian Peterson?? YES!!

Per Ryan Burns, a 2015 recruit will be committing to the Gophers anywhere between tomorrow and Thursday at the latest. No its not Kelly, Oseland, Carlburg or anyone who has been mentioned before apparently. Sorry guys, that's all I've got.

No one said WHICH THURSDAY!!!

It appears to be a done deal. All the indications point to him coming here. Kill's Georgia pipeline about to come through again.

They must not be hearing you! You need to talk LOUDER!

My guess is that he will be the only scholarship WR in the class as 2 2014 WRs will redshirt.

Respectfully disagree. WR coming out of HS are rarely men like Holland and usually need a year to gain the strength to play against college DBs (unless they get by with elite speed). I'd be shocked if we didn't take at least two , more likely 3 WR so we can again red shirt a couple and start building enough depth to withstand the injuries, transfers and dismissals that got us into our current state of affairs.

Well if he's the guy, that's another impressive offer list. Legitimate offers from Florida, Georgia Tech (can't see why many WR's would want to go there), Iowa and Kansas St. with high interest from Ohio St and Michigan St. Recruiting does appear to be one notch higher than last year.

You mean like Calvin Johnson.

I knew someone would come with Calvin Johnson. What you need to remember is he was at Georgia Tech PRIOR to Paul Johnson taking over (was recruited by Chan Gailey). CJ did just fine his last year there, but it is not a WR friendly offense.

Demaryius Thomas

Also, Stephen Hill (though he has been bad in the NFL). Demaryius Thomas was already there, too, when Paul Johnson showed up FYI.

So by my count that is the top two wide receivers in the league (both 1st rounders) and an unproductive 2nd round pick. DeAndre Smelter will likely be drafted this year, no idea when though. Not too bad for an offense that throws 80% of the time!

Just noticed on his Rivals page that the Ted Roof is recruting him at Georgia Tech. Dude gets around!

To be fair, he is a Georgia native, Georgia Tech alum, and has spent multiple coaching stints there. He has certainly made the rounds, but Tech would definitely be considered his "home base".

Brown looks more like a Jerry Gibson type, like a hybrid TE, than he does a WR in my opinion. I think we'll take a more traditional WR as well.

Does that video really give out his cell phone and email address? That's just crazy to me

Yeah, why would a recruit want to go to a school that was 122nd in pass attempts last year when he could go to a school that was 121st? :)

Never mind that there's a 64 PA gap between those two rankings...

And there's a 98 PA gap between Minnesota and that high-flying aerial attack the Hawkeyes run.

Neither team passes very much. There are reasons for kids to choose any particular school over any other. On a message board the highest weighting always goes to the reasons that most favor the school in question. Perhaps in Almonzo's case he's choosing Minnesota because they pass 4.9 times more per game than Georgia Tech, but he also really doesn't like the colors blue and orange and that's why he's not interested in going to Florida, who passes 5.4 times more per game than Minnesota. My guess is neither of these is relevant in the decision.
