Assuming that Brew gets the hook and a new head coach is hired (whenever and whoever that may be), what's the first thing you want to hear from him during his initial press conference? Obviously listening to talk of Gopher Nation and Pasadena might not go over too well(although those are definitely goals to reach). Optimist of the program or a realist of the program? Bowl eligible? If so, when? What else must be or should be said?

Whoever it is, his goal should be to win the Big Ten. Don't put a timeframe on it. Progression, getting better every year. Making fewer mistakes and learning from the ones you do make.

I want him to say that the U's football team has 4 goals for its first year.

1. We want our players and fans to have fun and be proud of their program.
2. We want to lock down our state's football talent.
3. We want to beat wisconsin.
4. We want to beat Iowa.

5. Never lose to Dakota anything again. Ever. Even close victory totally unacceptable (how can it even be possible to have say this).

Unless the coach is of Tubby Smith , Lou Holtz caliber- it won't matter what he says. He'll be too boring, too careful, too mediocre, or he'll be a blowhard who's overly optimistic. This is the nature of our tired worn out easy to defeat fan base.

Amen brother

Unless the new coach is Joe Mauer or Brett Farve, the local media will not like him.

"I think we have a TREMENDOUS team and stadium and I'm going to get your chili hot and lead this team to the Rose Bowl."

oh wait....

"I'd like to thank AD Jeremy Foley for this opportunity."

Fan base & media.

Bingo. With the greatest emphasis on #3 and #4.

I'd like someone who honestly, and obviously, really wants to be here. Someone who will talk up Minnesota and mean it, and stay here when he brings success.

I will do everything I can to restore MN football to a competitive program.

Our goals should be to:

1.) Recruit the talent within the state.
2.) Utilize our playmakers in the correct positions.
3.) Always get better. If we get better everything else will take care of itself.
4.) Win the games we are supposed to win.
5.) In the short term, win some games we shouldn't to build excitement around the program.

Be truthful. Turning this around will be a big job.

Fix the problems and build a foundation for xxx-scheme. (aka, have a plan).

"What are we suppose to do with all this Kool Aid"...

Wow, you want him to say everything that Brewster said when he was first hired. And everyone here ripped Brewster apart from DAY ONE on this board. Get over yourself "gopher fans."

No, guy.

Did I say anything about "Gopher Nation", "big ten titles" "Rose Bowls", etc.??

Keep it simple. Keep it to the things that should be obvious, and primary goals of every Gopher football season. In my opinion, those four things should be baseline goals. We shouldn't even think about rose bowls until we can do all four in consecutive seasons.

All I want for Christmas is a FB team. Santa Claus is a Gopher fan, ya know.

Sure he is.

Wears red and white.
Obese old man.
Works one day a year.
Sneaks into people's homes to eat their cookies and make their children "happy".
More-than-just-friends with a dozen or so deer.

Sounds like a bucky fan to me.

Didn't Tressel say at his first presser that he was going to build a team that was going to beat Michigan every year? I want a guy who will build a team to keep Floyd and the Axe in Minneapolis. If we do that, we have a better shot at the Jug every now and then too.

Yes. Exactly my point. I forgot that about Tressel. Thanks for reminding me.

There is nothing that will rally a group of people like the desire to say "F*ck You!" to someone. Our someone is wisconsin and Iowa.

Very convincing argument. And if tOSU tonight loses I might be celebrating chanukah this winter.

I want someone who makes it clear that success is winning Big Ten titles, not going to "bowl" games. I want someone who looks at Minnesota as a great opportunity not as some obstacle to success. I want someone who makes it clear how important it is to recruit well. I want someone who can describe his system on offense or defense that he's implemented with great success elsewhere. Finally, I want someone who can introduce someone on the "other side of the ball" who has his sytems and that the head coach will let him run it.

I want to see an outline of five steps, in order, that the new coach would want to accomplish.

1) A winning season without a cheap non-conference schedule.

2) Keep the best kids in-state, recruit my O-Line in state and regionally, and then cherry pick selected skill players around the country.

3) Win the rivalry games at home and then be competitive if not eventually win them on the road.

4) Get a New Year's Day bowl (any)

5) Rose Bowl.

Our program is so far in the toilet that success has to be measured, gradual, and progress needs to be shown. This should be a five year plan, with year one's goal getting back to a bowl game.

I want a coach who will lose the whole "Gopher Nation" thing. I always saw that as
cheap placating talk.....

Gopher Nation is really embarrassing and I'd love to see it go away. Just address us as Gopher fans thanks.
