Nelson is too good not to play this year

Oh lord...the only thing that could make this thread better. A grammar/word use/spelling check.

No, the only thing that could make this thread better is if a whiskey soaked Wren popped in to slur hello.

There are several QBs in the Sunday league that didn't start in college until they were juniors, primarily at helmet schools who always have quality QB's. Some successful NFL QBs were even career backups in college, like Cassel and Brad Johnson (blast from the past.) Two years of starting and excelling at a BCS school is enough to get the pros interested. Look at Tannehill, who only started 19 college games. He could be a top ten pick. Redshirting Nelson to get him 2 eligibility years behind Shortell is the ideal plan for the Gophs. It is very important to have depth at QB, especially in this era, when QBs are marked men. Backups are only one injury away from seeing the field. Where would LSU have been last year without a Jarrett Lee to come in and play at a high level. Teams should ideally have 4 roster QBs. We have no one behind Foreman except for the frosh. I would roster Leidner instead of Nelson. This would give us a 4th QB this year and provide a more mature senior backup for Nelson's junior year. That is assuming Nelson beats out Leidner for starter that year, which is not a given. Parish and Pride transferring out hurt our depth and Kill was right to recruit two QBs for this year. Go Gophers.
