Nebraska Game

How did PJ not recruit "Mr. Football" Emmet Johnson, from Minneapolis, who is now Nebraska's top runner, a pass catcher and an All-B10 Academic, and one of the best rushers in the B10? It took him awhile to mature, but his style is exactly what the Gopher running game needs this year. With their super soph QB and a running game, Nebraska should be favored by 10, but that depends on whether the Gophers can finally run themselves.

His whole recruitment was weird, Nebraska offered him very late. Gophers never did offer. I think he was really focused on basketball until his Junior year and didn’t do any camps. His HS coach has said the Gophers had some interest in him as a cornerback but had questions about his speed.

Camps are a big deal with our HC and his team. Still, a miss is a miss but can't get them all.

This could be a massive reach, but did attending Holy Angels have anything to do with it?

I know Omaha has Creighton, so guessing some amount of Catholics down there, maybe one up here with HA connections was also a Neb booster? Like I said, a reach

He reclassified his junior year. They may have believed he had reached his ceiling. Nebraska declared every kid academic all American. It’s been a runninjoke since Osborne

You were saying this around the time of his recruitment as well, and consistently proven wrong.

We probably already had a pair, a spare, and a hare!

I know for sure Mo was here then and also maybe Bucky? Also if you look at that recruiting year, EJ was like the 7th or 8th ranked player in the MN.

If the above if true that he never attended our camps…well then…he would be considered as “not the right fit” for us 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stop acting like we aren’t talented enough to play with Nebraska. We didn’t take Johnson probably because we still had Thomas, Irving and Mo at that point and we only took one rb in that class, Zach Evans.
All anyone is saying is that taking Zach Evan’s over Emmett Johnson was a recruiting miss. I’m not sure how this is debatable at this point. Evans no longer plays football, and Johnson is 2nd in the Big Ten in rushing.

Outside of the Emmett Johnson talk it seems like some think we’ll need to get extremely lucky to win this game. To be fair to Evans I think he suffered some injuries but he did appear to be promising at one point. It’s easy to see why we didn’t take him, and I think it is still debatable how big of a miss he really is as he would almost certainly not look so great in our current offense.

Not sure what promise you saw in Evans’ 60 career carries, but I certainly agree that Johnson would likely struggle in our rushing offense this year as well. It’s still ok to point out missing a kid in your backyard that wanted to stay.

I do not live in the Fox viewing area and had planned to watch the game and root on a Gopher win. Does anyone out of state know where I can find the game tonight? PLEASE!

Fox Sports One maybe? If you don’t get that channel you have to resort to a pirated stream

60 carries is plenty to see promise. But anyway, I agree we could certainly use Johnson. Is it known he wanted to stay?
