Nebraska and Tennessee Cancel Upcoming Games

He's saying they lose seating to the renovation for all home games, so they are trying to recoup as much as possible.
I’m not saying that, Nebraska is saying that

Isn't that money lost regardless of whether or not they cancel the Tennessee game?
Yes

That’s why they are canceling the game:

7 games x 8 million = 56 million
7 games x 7 million = 49 million
8 games x 7 million = 56 million minus buyouts to get the extra home game

They are losing money every home game
So they are creating an extra home game to make up the revenue

There is something to be said for it
But the Nebraska athletics dept thinks this is about making more money
It's rather conveniently servicing both goals.

2025 they play Cincinnati on neutral (but I will assume vastly Husker crowd) to open the season.

They currently aren't scheduled after that to leave Lincoln for a Non-Big 10 game until 2029 when they play at Oklahoma, a 3+ season gap. Let's see if that one sticks.
Other than Cincinnati the only other P4 team on their Non-conference lineup is Arizona until the matchup with the Sooners.

By 2029 the Oklahoma game is probably folded into an SEC big ten challenge

Quite possibly.

Maybe the Big 8/12 history with the Sooners would preclude them from bailing on that one. Also depends on the buyout provisions.

Whatever the CFP format becomes could also have an influence. A coaching change could also result in a different scheduling philosophy.
