NDSU goes down

Hilarious/pathetic how Gopher fans view a "Junior Varsity" team, as so many of you call NDSU. Bet there's plenty here like me who are diehard Gopher fans and Bison fans (played for them in the 80s). I cheer for all teams with lots of Minnesotans on the roster...Mankato State, Minny-Duluth, St. Thomas, St Johns....U of M and NDSU. Did the Bison choke at home on Saturday? Absolutely. Why Gopher fans choose to revel in this is beyond ridiculous. Why are we Gopher fans threatened by pathetic little ndsu, a "junior varsity" team? Go Gophers! Ski-u-mah! See how easy that is to support all kinds of teams with Minny players on their roster?

Nobody from here would EVER refer to this state as "Minny." This is some ridiculous term started by Canadian hockey commentators.

Not the state, but the city of Minneapolis.

I first heard of Minneapple when Minneapolis ran an ad campaign in the 80’s trying to differentiate itself from St. Paul and the Twin Cities nickname.

At some point it evolved to Mini-Apple and is also used for arts and events calendars and the
Mini-Apple Night of Miles run hosted by the Run Minnesota club.

So, now you know that Minneapolis embraces the Mini or Minny moniker.

Still never heard anyone from Minnesota or Minneapolis refer to either as Minny and I've lived here my entire life.

Nothing against the team/players. It's just due to their fans.

I remember the Minneapple campaign. It was a parody of a famous New Yorker cover.

But that has nothing to do with people today referring to the state as Minny. Literally the first person I ever heard say that was Barry Melrose on an NHL broadcast. It's an absolute red flag that someone is not from here. Like people from SF would never call it "Frisco."
