NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament Brackets

I don't know about it being pretty full. I see a bunch of seat backs.
At least the lower bowl looked "pretty full" compared to Thursday, which looked really empty.

I concede, I didn't watch it long enough to see what it was like in the upper corners though, so yeah there was likely plenty of ticket inventory.

This is way the top four teams should host the regions
At least in the same city if not home arena.
If Michigan Tech was a top 4 team and hosted, I doubt there would be many options in Houghton, MI nor hotels. Imagine Bemidji hosting?

There are several NCAA Div 1 schools in which the infrastructure to host would be problematic especially on 4 days notice. I've been to Hamilton, NY (Colgate) that would be a tall order as well in late March.

Plus if the host loses Round 1, attendance could be really lousy for Round 2.

Any format is going to have pros and cons. I would like the incentive it would provide in the regular season and conference tournaments.

I think the way they are doing it is as good as any. Midsize arenas that can hopefully draw multiple teams from a reasonable driving distance is fine. Works great sometimes, others not so much, just like any potential format.

I have seen plenty of games over the years in basically empty rinks too. As far as Bemidji goes they have youth tournaments all winter with 12 to 16 teams every weekend, so yes they can handle it

Not the same thing. Sure, when they are planned in advance I have no doubt Bemidji can host such an event. I would assume pretty much all of those 12-16 teams were driving into town and had hotels/accomodations reserved for weeks or months.

Going back to the late 80s/early 90s when I had student season tickets, the first 2 NCAA rounds the higher seed hosted a series, 2 Game Total Goals then later modified to Best of 3. Old Mariucci would be half filled unless they played a WCHA rival. Easiest ticket all year because they weren't part of the Season Ticket package. Same story pretty much everywhere.

It's why they went to predetermined Regionals when the field expanded from 12 to 16.

Some details on upcoming Boston University:

The All-Hockey East First Team is highlighted by two unanimous selections, including... Boston University freshman defenseman Lane Hutson (North Barrington, Ill.). Joining the pair on the First Team are defenseman Domenick Fensore (Thornwood, N.Y./Boston University) and forwards Matt Brown (Wood Ridge, N.J.)/Boston University)... Third Team... Wilmer Skoog (Tyresö, Sweden/Boston University).

This is shaping up to be a heavyweight bout. Gophers have more while Boston U is not far behind.

The two goaltenders:

Uh guys I'm kind of freaking out in a good way... Did everyone catch Bob at the 9:40 mark of the post game interview complementing Cooley then say "next year he's gonna take an even bigger step with us". Why would Bob say that?????

Am I in the wrong thread? No comments on the Michigan/Penn State game? I just got home. Game tied headed to OT. Go Nittany Lions!

Michigan wins in OT.

I figured, and hoped, Michigan had a chance to slip in this round if they did slip.

Now we'll see Michigan in the final winner take all against Minnesota.

Quinnipiac beat Ohio State.

I think Minnesota against Boston U is going to be a big game. Watch out of Boston U. Both Minnesota and Massachusetts are big hockey states and will get press.

And then we have hockey-state Michigan and Quinnipiac from hockey-region New England (Connecticut).

Looking like a great Frozen Four!

Gophers get the early game because in ESPN's eyes UM is the top overall.

More likely, they know that the Gophers and BU will draw a good television audience no matter what time they put them on. Not as much with Quinn-Mich.

How do we know what the times will be? I can't find anything yet.

This is not true. It was already announced during the Mich/Penn St game that it would be the late game regardless of who won. I doubt ESPN thinks Mich is the top seed after scoring zero 5 on 5 goals in regulation.

I have a lot of respect for you as you really know your hockey, but you gotta stop this whoa is us crap. Just play the games, win the games and take home a trophy.

Both Minnesota and Michigan are favored.

I already posted some detailed stuff about Boston University for connoisseurs that want more information. Now below is Quinnipiac.

All four teams in the Frozen Four are loaded.

The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was well represented when the 2023 ECAC Hockey awards came out on Thursday night, as the Bobcats scored four major individual awards and six all-league honors ahead of Friday's semifinal matchup with Colgate.

Rand Pecknold earned his third consecutive Tim Taylor Coach of the Year Award,

sophomore goaltender Yaniv Perets was named to his second MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Year honor,

senior Skyler Brind'Amour scored the Gladiator Best Defensive Forward honor

freshman forward Sam Lipkin is the ECAC's Rookie of the Year.

The Bobcats earned six All-League honors, as Perets is joined by Collin Graf as unanimous First Team decisions. Graduate students Ethan de Jong and Zach Metsa were tabbed Second Team honorees, Brind'Amour was slotted Third Team and Lipkin is also on the All-Rookie team.

And we already know Michigan -- a machine. Look at this deadly wrist shot for the win.

And Minnesota - the most loaded of any team.

From here on, Minnesota has to play top hockey, give all for 3 periods. Every team that made it this far will be playing out of their minds.

Minnesota only lost to Michigan by 1 goal that last game. If Minnesota wasn't briefly sluggish they wouldn't have given up a couple goals in that game. They have to be on down the stretch and will win.

I was at the BT championship game and did not think we played very well at all, yet still only lost by 1 goal. We had spurts where we played well, but overall we looked generally sluggish and a step behind all game. The same version showed up for the first half of the Canisius game, then they woke up. Against SCSU, minus some sloppy D-zone play at times, I thought they were on their game. They must come out with that kind of intensity and effort against Boston. They do that, I like our chances.

It must feel bad to lose in OT one shot away from the Frozen Four. You can see in these games it hits the guys hard.

I was at the Frozen Four fie the women. When Northeasten lost the crying and clusters of hugs went on a long time. A Hockey East team has never won the title.

These are big games -- these guys have worked years to get there.

3 of the 4 are ging to.lose.

On the bright side, winner of the Minnesota/Boston University semis gets a few extra hours of rest ahead of the Saturday final.
