NCAA lifts eligibility ban in allowing Canadian Hockey League players to compete at U.S. colleges

Use to be kids going from high school directly into college. Michigan schools for high school kids from Minnesota. Then the USHL league opened up, and now you've got young adults coming in as freshman. In my opinion off hand without listening to others. Not good.

This is going to push more talent out to more schools. More parity will probably result. Big NIL schools will still collect the highest end talent but the mid and lower schools will then see some kids drop to them. It will be interesting to see though. A lot of kids in those junior leagues have no intention of going to college. Some don’t have the grades.

As someone that doesn't fully invest in understanding all of the recruiting nuances, NIL, etc, can the Gophers slow start in recruiting this fall possibly be attributed to Motzko being ahead of the game and has targets in Canadian hockey leagues?

It is clear that the proportion of Canadians in D1 is going to increase now. With that, the Gophers continuing to take Minnesotans other than star non-Minnesotans (take the Mooneys, skip the Reids) becomes even more of a pride point for those of us that care.
