NCAA considers new transfer rule tied to GPA

I agree somewhat with Sportsfan24 on allowing transfers if a new coach arrives. New system means a ton of kids who expected to play get buried or run off.

Expanding on my earlier comments, let's say a kid goes to the MAC and gets a year or two of experience and then decides to transfer. Because of his experience and the fact that the whole football universe has a better idea of his talent, there could be a considerable number of suitors for a kid who would take a scholarship from an in-coming freshman who likely wouldn't contribute for a year (or two or three). I think you'd see high-profile performers from lesser conferences entertaining the idea of transferring up. It wouldn't work for either the player or the new team in many cases, but that wouldn't stop it from happening. I don't want to go full-bore conspiracy buff, but I could see some of the major programs telling a kid "accept the scholarship from Team A, get some experience, and the offer from us will likely be open again after your sophomore season (Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.)." In other words, a junior college program for kids who qualify academically and want to play a better brand of football.

Yeah, but would they get paid by the SEC school while they're at the MAC school. Oh wait, that doesn't really happen...

I have a tough time with the idea a student can transfer with a new coach because it's like a double bash against a lower level school that finally got some success. Imagine if all the kids Holtz recruited left when he went to ND. The program would have been devastated, through no fault of the U (other than not paying him enough money to not want to go to his dream job).

Here's a better/more recent example for you: Jordan Lynch leaves with Doeren to go to NC St.
