NBA scout on RS3: "He can post you up, take you outside, take you inside"

The sameway people like to call Sampson a 7 footer. It just sounds nice to give yourself a few inches.

It does not a big deal, though I wish they would just measure every player barefoot and list their actually height. Would be interested to know how tall guys like Ralph and Chip really are.

Sampson does have all the skills!! HOWEVER he has no heart or drive. Usually you either have it or you don't. Time will tell, but it will take a big turnaround next yr. to make the NBA. Maybe the time in Chicago was a wake up???

Of course everyone's different, but this brings to mind the Voshon Lenard experience. He did the same thing as Ralph, eventually returning for his senior year. He had what most people called a disappointing senior season, perhaps due to his own disappointment of delaying his pro career expectations. (He also might have gained a few pounds, which didn't help.) Ultimately, though, he had a decent NBA career, and I've always felt the final year of collegiate competition did him some good.

The biggest reason to measure them is to find out how tall they really are? If Sampson is not even 6'10" without shoes on the viability in him being able to guard anyone 7' tall is in question. You cannot coach height I guess.

The 7' tall player is not 7' tall without shoes on.

He has NBA three-point range.

If by "range" he means the ability to literally shoot the basketball the necessary 23'9" to get the ball from behind the NBA line to the basket, then yes, he has NBA "range."

If he means anything else other than the above definition then this guy is clueless.

The TNT crew during the playoffs said Green was one of the two most athletic Celtics. In watching Green how any sober person could compare him and Sampson is beyond me.The scout is either clueless or the media more or less made the quote up.

If I were to pick the most absurd thing of the many in that quote it would have to be the Jeff Green comparison. REALLY? Green can handle the ball, is a smooth athlete, good lateral quickness, natural instincts for the game and can play multiple positions. Ralph is none of those. That scout needs to reevaluate his career decision.

I haven't had the chance to watch too many games over the last few years, but here's my assessment on him in the limited time I've seen RS3.

I think he has a nice-looking, soft jumper. BUT, I have not seen him consistently make jump shots (in fact I've seen him airball several). He looks long, but he has slow feet so he can be a liability on defense despite his shot blocking ability.

A couple of years ago I thought Colt was a better post player. I didn't see as many games this last year so I'm not sure how they compare now. Too bad Colt left, but he'll do well at CSU. A RS year will be good for him.

I think it's great RS3 entered the draft for the experience, but another year in school would benefit him greatly.

I am hopefull that Ralph's experience during the NBA evaluation process told him that his one chance to play in the NBA is to change his effort and aggressiveness level from a 3 out of 10 level to an 8+ out of 10 level. Ralph can have all the size and skills in the world, if he does not play harder, he will not be drafted or play in the NBA. If the light goes on for Ralph in this area, it is a win - win for everyone. Ralph has a big senior season and the NBA scouts will take notice.
