Per Matt Snyder at Fanhouse.com, the Big Ten is surging due to having the best top to bottom head coachs in the nation.

"With the additions of Tubby Smith, Thad Matta and John Beilein in the past few years -- not to mention Indiana snagging Tom Crean after the catastrophic mess left behind by Kelvin Sampson -- the collective pedigree of the Big Ten coaches is off the charts."

Here is the whole story: http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/05/04/nations-best-coach-in-big-ten/

Head Coach of the Golden Gophers, Tubby Smith !!!

It's amazing. 2 coaches with National titles (Izzo and Smith). 2 more with NT appearances (Weber and Matta). Another with a Final Four (Crean). So half the conference coaches have reached final four or better. A few more have made it to the 8 and 16. We've got a great bunch of coaches.

"As long as he doesn't take another job -- and he's being mentioned for many in the rumor mill -- the Gophers have a legitimate shot eventually to head to the Final Four"

I can't help but smile, thinking about that, even though I'm stuck in a library writing a paper
